🛑 United for a Glorious Purpose: Flashing Lights Mean STOP! 🛑

It’s School Bus Safety Week, and today we teamed up with YSD1 Transportation and the City of York Fire Department, SC for a special photoshoot. 🚌🚓🚒 We stand united in our partnership for one glorious purpose: keeping our children safe as they travel to and from school.

While we love serving this community, we must address a deeply concerning trend. We have received complaints that drivers are actively ignoring the extended stop signs and flashing red lights of our school buses. Let us be clear—this behavior is absolutely unacceptable.

Our school children have one primary purpose in life right now: to get an education so they can go on to be successful. A single negligent or reckless driver can end that dream in an instant.

Please remember the heavy legal and financial consequences of failing to stop for a school bus:

First Offense: A fine of $500 and/or 30 days in jail.

Second & Subsequent Offenses: An immediate arrest, a fine of up to $5,000, and/or 60 days in jail.

Let’s all work together, stay alert, and keep our children safe.

🚌 Every Stop. Every Route. Every Student. Safety Comes First!

During National School Bus Safety Week, York School District One is celebrating the dedicated YSD1 Transportation members and community first responders who work together to keep our students safe every day.

From our YSD1 bus drivers who greet students each morning to our partners with the City of York Police Department, SC and City of York Fire Department, SC , school bus safety is a shared responsibility that takes teamwork, preparation and a community-wide commitment.

💛 Thank you to the men and women who help make the journey to and from school a safe one for our students. And to our families and motorists, remember to slow down, stay alert and stop when required for a school bus.

Together, we're keeping our students safe, one ride at a time!
