Did you know Catawba Bend Preserve has a new 3.5 mile trail to explore?

The hiking trail is well maintained, marked and easy enough for the whole family! Be on the lookout for a variety of birds and take part in a turtle scavenger hunt while you're there.

Plus, you can picnic in the beautiful tree grove and pay a visit to the camp store to learn what's to come at the park this Fall.

Gas grills cause more than 9,200 fires each year, sending more than 21,000 people to the ER.
Many of those fires ignited on grills that weren’t cleaned or were sitting too close to a house or apartment wall. Others had leaks or breaks in valves and hoses. York County Fire reminds you to enjoy a safe summer grilling season.

On this Memorial Day we pause to remember those in our Armed Forces who died defending our freedom. Air Force Senior 1st Lt. Ron Johnston of York County flew B-52 Bombers in Vietnam. You’ll see much more of Ron’s story in the coming months, but today he recounts why Memorial Day is deeply personal to him. He saw his close friends shot down and killed.

Effective Friday May 22, 2026, all boat ramps at Allison Creek Park (ACP) will be closed due to low water levels. This means that no boats will able to use ACP to launch onto, or come off of, Lake Wylie.

Current lake conditions have created safety concerns for boaters and staff, and the decision to close the ramps has been made to prevent damage, accidents and unsafe launching conditions.

Park staff will continue to closely monitor water levels and ramp conditions through the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Conditions will be evaluated daily to determine if the ramps can safely reopen.

This decision has not been made lightly as we understand this may impact holiday plans and appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize public safety.

Sincerely,
Allison Creek Park Staff
York County Parks and Recreation

Rain is in the forecast this weekend. Be weather aware and look out for flood risks.

Always remember....turn around, don't drown!

Just a few inches of water can cause hazardous driving conditions.
Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
Stay weather aware.
