Important update!

York County Animal Services SC will be closed for intake until Friday, June 26.

The animals currently in the shelter kennel area are safe and not exposed. This only affects the areas where animals enter the shelter.

INTAKE ALERT

Animal Services Intake Department is closed due to a parvo exposure. We had 2 puppies brought into our Intake area that have tested positive for Parvo.

The animals currently in the shelter kennel area are safe and not exposed. This only affects the areas where animals enter the shelter. Our Intake Department will be closed for repeated deep decontamination protocol in these areas for the next 72 hours. We will reopen for regular dog stray intake on Friday, June 26th from 11:30 AM-3:30 PM.

Our officers will be responding to injured and actively aggressive stray dogs during this time.

Please continue to avoid the area near the 1300 block of Fire Tower
Road just outside of Rock Hill. Crews are on scene and are making progress as they work to bring a significant fire under control. There is smoke in the area, so please avoid the area as firefighters are actively working at this time.

Congrats to our York County 101 class of 2026! Today they finish this four-month course that started back in February. We hosted a wonderful group of citizens, and our staff who presented enjoyed sharing what they do and answering their questions. We'll be opening signups for next year's class in late fall. Keep an eye on our social media pages and our website for information.

Friday is Juneteenth! All York County offices, our 16 Collection & Recycling Centers, and the County landfill will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of the holiday.

Last night, York County Council approved first reading of incentives related to Project Palmetto Rock.

This project:
📌Brings $1.5 billion in investment to our County
📌Will support 1,200 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect jobs
📌Offers wages well above the County-wide average
📌Has the support of the Federal and State governments
📌Will lessen the tax burden on individual residents

You'll be able to learn who the company is, hear from them directly and receive details about their future plans during a public hearing and second reading before Council, scheduled for June 29, 2026. The public will also have the opportunity to provide feedback to Council during the meeting as well. The meeting will be held at the York County Government Center, located at 6 S. Congress Street in York.

An important reminder from York County Animal Services SC.

We have taken in 94 animals in one week!! And the previous week we took in over 60! Our kennel spaces are over capacity with quarantines of sick animals under treatment, stray pets that are waiting for their owners, and holds for law enforcement cases.

Please Spay and Neuter your pets!
It's the only true solution to overpopulation.

Heads up Fort Mill! One week from today on Sunday, June 21, SCDOT will close two intersections near I-77. Highway 160 at Market Street and Highway 160 at Munn Road will be closed as part of the ongoing construction on the new interstate overpass. SCDOT said the closure will last a week. Please use Harris Road and Hwy 21 as a detour around the Munn Road closure, and Assembly Drive to detour around the Market Street closure.

The hottest days of the year so far are ahead this weekend, beginning today. With a heat index reaching or passing 100 degrees, please take precautions outdoors. Recognize the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
-Heat exhaustion can cause dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea and weakness. Please move to a cooler area, drink water, and seek medical help if symptoms don't improve.
-Heat Stroke can cause confusion, dizziness and loss of consciousness. Call 911 immediately.
Heat-related illnesses can be severe. Please stay safe this summer.
