In person, live author talk with True Crime Writer John Olszewski who has spent more than 30 years studying and corresponding with some of the world’s most notorious criminals.
This program will appeal to true crime enthusiasts, readers, and anyone interested in psychology, criminal justice, or human behavior.
During this program, John will share stories from his research and writing, discuss the psychological and social factors behind violent crime, and display framed artwork and photographs given to him by incarcerated individuals (all appropriate for public viewing). The talk offers a thoughtful look at the human, psychological, and societal aspects of true crime, rather than focusing on sensationalism.
Born and raised in Salem, Massachusetts, John holds degrees in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. His professional experience includes work in jails, prisons, mental hospitals, treatment centers, and academic institutions, giving him a unique and informed perspective on criminal behavior.
John is the author of three books:
The Long Dark Walk (2019), part autobiography and part research, detailing his decades of correspondence with serial, mass, and spree killers.
Serial Shorts (2022), a collection of short stories based on real-life serial killers that blends factual research with narrative storytelling.
Still Walking in the Dark (forthcoming, late Spring/early Summer), a sequel to The Long Dark Walk that continues his exploration of criminal psychology.
He is also the co-host of The Long Dark Walk Podcast, where incarcerated murderers call in from prison to be interviewed, offering rare firsthand insight into their lives and actions.
