When Leslie and Sam learned their three young grandchildren needed a safe place to go, they didn't hesitate to step in.

Kinship care helps children stay connected to the people they already know and trust during difficult moments, providing them with stability and comfort when life suddenly changes.

But becoming a caregiver overnight can feel overwhelming without the right support.

Children’s Home of York walks alongside families every step of the way.

Our team helps kinship caregivers, like Leslie and Sam, navigate the process so they can focus on what matters most: helping children feel safe, loved, and stable.

Stories like theirs remind us that when families are supported, children have a stronger foundation to heal and move forward.

School may be out for summer, but our BRIDGES program provides a consistent, supportive environment for the children we serve year-round.

With more time in their day, having creative outlets becomes even more important. Activities like arts and crafts give our kids a way to stay engaged, express themselves, and just enjoy being kids.

We’ve put together an Amazon Wishlist of supplies to help support the program.

If you’re able to contribute, you can find the list here:

Last year, our clients created garden beds, and they enjoyed it so much that they’re asking to do it again this year!

We’re hoping to expand the space so they can plant even more and continue building on what they started.

We’re currently looking to partner with local businesses and organizations as we expand our garden spaces with additional plants, seeds, raised garden beds, and watering cans, giving our kids more opportunities to continue learning and growing.

If you’re interested in getting involved, we’d love to connect: [email protected].

Yesterday’s visit from Pennsylvania First Lady Lori Shapiro, Office of the First Lady of Pennsylvania, and York City Mayor ,Sandie Walker, highlighted the growing need for mental health support for children and teens, and meaningful access to care across our community.

During the visit, we had the opportunity to share how we are expanding access to trauma-informed behavioral health services through programs like Spark, our outpatient mental health clinic.

In our newest blog, we reflect on the visit and discuss the importance of early intervention, accessible care, and the increasing demand for youth mental health support across Pennsylvania and here in York County.

Providing stability for the children and families we serve includes every part of their environment, even what happens behind the scenes.

With support from the Powder Mill Foundation, we were able to purchase a maintenance vehicle that will serve all of our properties and locations.

This allows our team to respond more quickly, maintain safe and welcoming spaces, and keep programs running smoothly.

Thank you so much to the Powder Mill Foundation for your support!

Today we were honored to welcome Pennsylvania's First Lady, Lori Shapiro, Office of the First Lady of Pennsylvania and York City Mayor, Sandie Walker, to Children’s Home of York during National Mental Health Awareness Month. 💚

During their visit, we had the opportunity to share more about programs like SPARK, an outpatient mental health clinic here at CHOY, that provides critical support, guidance, and healing opportunities for children, teens, and families throughout our community.

Mental health care changes lives, and conversations like these help shine a light on the importance of accessible, compassionate services for young people.

Thank you, First Lady Shapiro and York City Mayor Sandie Walker, for taking the time to learn more about our mission and for recognizing the importance of supporting children’s mental health across Pennsylvania.

Together, we can continue creating brighter, healthier futures for the children and families we serve.
