Open burning - like campfires, fire pits and burning yard waste - releases smoke and emissions directly into the air. Before you strike a match, make sure you’re following South Carolina’s regulations:

• Allowed (if local ordinances permit): Yard trimmings, barbecues, campfires, and bonfires using only untreated wood.
• Illegal to Burn: Plastics, tires, paint, household cleaners, and construction debris.
• Live in city limits? Check with your local government before burning.
• Outside city limits? Notify the S.C. Forestry Commission before you burn
