A crew consisting of over a dozen YHFD Volunteers remained in district to cover calls for service.

R-16’s crew threw ladders for egress/escape, secured utilities and monitored fire ground conditions. At the request of the Peekskill IC, a small crew of YHFD members were put to work completing secondary searches and conducting ventilation while still maintaining FAST on scene.

An additional crew of YHFD members covered our district until members returned from the fire scene in Peekskill and event in Katonah.

Despite the heroic efforts from first arriving City of Peekskill Fire Department/ Peekskill Professional Firefighters Local 2343 firefighters that entered the structure under significant fire conditions, rescued and removed a trapped occupant to awaiting EMS personnel that provided immediate patient care and rapid transport to an area hospital. The victim sadly succumbed to their injuries.

The Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No. 1 & Yorktown Heights Fire District extends our condolences to all of those affected by this tragic loss.

This week, “Probie Class 26-01” began for our 6 newest members in the Spring/Summer session of our YHFD Probationary Volunteer Firefighter Orientation Program.

This intensive 2 month program acts as a formal introduction to the fire service for those without any previous training to prepare them to meet and exceed the academic and physical requirements of the NYS Firefighter 1 curriculum, and as a orientation and familiarization process for those that come with previous training/certifications, as they will work to complete their Probie task books and become an interior FF within our agency.

This session, 3 new members come to us with previous training/certifications from other agencies, 2 new members are moving up to the Sr ranks from our Junior Corps Program (Ages 15-17) with previous training/certifications and 1 new member is brand new to the fire service.

Good luck to “Probie Class 26-01” Welcome to “The Heights” yorktownny

Today's Wild/Brush Fire danger remains high! With the increased winds, dry air, and low relative humidity, please take extra precautions with open flames and other sources of ignition.

High Hazard: All fine dead fuels ignite readily and fires start easily from most causes. Unattended brush and campfires are likely to escape. Fires spread rapidly and short-distance spotting is common. High-intensity burning may develop on slopes or in concentrations of fine fuels. Fires may become serious and their control difficult unless they are attacked successfully while small.

NYS Residents are reminded that the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14th.

On Saturday, April 25th. The YHFD’s Water Rescue Unit/ Dive Team headed down to Playland for the Westchester County Airport Emergency Preparedness Exercise. This year’s exercise simulated a full size commercial airliner that had crashed into a large body water. The YHFD was originally tasked as the water rescue F.A.S.Team (stand-by safety team) for water rescue agencies operating. As the incident expanded and with the YHFD being on serval host agencies alarm assignments for water rescue and SCUBA operations, YHFD units were added to the drill.

YHFD Marine units 55, 56, and 59 operated and performed multiple surface water rescues. Multiple water rescue assets removed 73 occupants (water rescue floating dummies) from the water with various triage statuses. The YHFD maintained Marine 57, and 58 with multiple rescue divers as the safety team during the operation.

The YHFD is proud to be included in this drill and operate alongside numerous FD/PD/EMS agencies from throughout the area. Special thanks to the Purchase Fire Department for marine support and decon operation’s at the conclusion of the drill.
