With Memorial day weekend right around the corner and many kids just finishing up with school summer is officially here! It’s time for pool season! With that being said we have some important information to share. The Yorktown Fire Department DOES NOT fill pools. We are sorry we don’t offer this, we can’t have our trucks out of service to fill pools and not be able to respond to emergencies. Please stay safe and which little ones at all times in the pool or any body of water. Also if you decide to go kayaking on the White River and experience an emergency, there have now been mile markers placed along side the river to help us find you in a quicker manner! Stay safe and stay hydrated this summer! Have a great summer everyone! ☀️

This morning YFD was dispatched to the 2800 Block of S Marsh St in Yorktown for a car vs train. Crews arrived on scene to find a Jeep in a field by the railroad tracks and rolled over. On scene personnel were able to remove the occupant by cutting the soft top cover with a pocketknife. Please avoid the area Yorktown Police Department is still on scene investigating the accident.

Last night, both YFD's tankers were requested by Alexandria Firefighters Local #1649 for a working residence fire; YFD responded with Tanker 67 and Engine 63. Crews assisted with tanker operations; due to Engine 63 being a 1800-gallon engine with a dump tank and dump valves, it can operate as a tanker in instances like this, along with bringing additional firefighters for fire scene operations. Crews hauled several thousand gallons of water, and assisted with fire attack and overhaul. After being released by Alexandria command, Engine 63 stood by covering Alexandria’s fire station for any additional calls in their area.

Stay weather aware today!

💦Most of Indiana will get heavy rain and lightning the rest of Monday, but not everyone will get a severe wind storm.

After the first wave of storms arrive, more rain may develop across parts of central and southwestern Indiana, leading to rainfall totals 1-3 inches by 3AM Tuesday.

There may be some localized flooding.

Friendly reminder, our station parking lot is not a place to park and wait to pick up your kids from school. It is also not a drive-thru to avoid traffic on Smith Street. We understand that no one wants to wait in long lines, however members must have places to park when responding to emergency calls, and drivers using the lot as a shortcut have nearly caused accidents while trucks are responding to emergencies.

Andrews Rd will be closed for the reminder of the day from Cornbread to Cooley for a culvert repair. Please avoid the area for through-traffic.

Three years ago today, we lost our friend, our coworker, and a great paramedic. He touched so many lives, made so many laugh, and his impact on the citizens of Delaware County will never be forgotten.

We miss you Kurt.
