🏃‍♀️📚 Back to School: Recess Showdown 5K at USCG Training Center Yorktown was one for the books!

With sprint finishes that felt like racing to the blacktop at recess, this run brought out everyone’s inner kid. Whether you showed up in full throwback gear or just brought the energy, the camaraderie and competition made it unforgettable.

Big shoutout to everyone who ran, cheered, and made this event such a blast. Nothing like a little friendly “recess rivalry” to remind us how fun fitness can be!

Who’s ready for the next showdown? 👟💥

Another outstanding group of Machinery Technicians is headed to the fleet!

Congratulations to MK “A” School Class 21-2026 on completing a demanding course of instruction and earning the title of Coast Guard Machinery Technician. You’ve built the technical foundation—now comes the opportunity to take that knowledge to your first units, keep learning, and make an immediate impact.

🏆 Promoting Excellence in Prevention Award

Training Center Yorktown proudly congratulates CSC Michael Breier, IS1 Azariah Prince, and Mr. Louis Parker on receiving the 2026 Promoting Excellence in Prevention Award!

Each year, the Department of War Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office recognizes individuals and teams across the Military Services for exceptional efforts in advancing sexual assault prevention.
CSC Breier, IS1 Prince, and Mr. Parker were recognized for their outstanding work developing the Coast Guard’s new SAPRR Bystander Intervention Training. Their dedication helped bring authentic “by the fleet, for the fleet” scenarios to life, creating engaging, action-oriented training that equips Coast Guard members with the skills and confidence to intervene and foster a culture of respect.

👏 Bravo Zulu to these three on this well-deserved recognition and their commitment to making a lasting impact across the Coast Guard!

Partnerships mean everything to our community!

🌟 Thank You, Josephine! 🌟
Last week we said goodbye to our Community Volunteer Ambassador, Josephin Rozner. As she completes her year-long internship, we’re celebrating the incredible impact she’s made at Colonial National Historical Park:

🤝 Strengthening Community Partnerships
Josephine transformed our partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Yorktown, growing it into a reliable and energetic monthly volunteer force. Her leadership helped Coast Guard volunteers tackle key stewardship projects, especially bamboo removal and historic earthwork care.

🌱 Expanding Volunteer Opportunities
Working with teams across the park, Josephine created meaningful avenues for Scouts, students, civic groups, and community organizations. Her ability to connect people with purpose strengthened both volunteer engagement and park stewardship.

🌿 Supporting the NPS Mission
Through hands on resource protection, improved communication, and thoughtful digital outreach, Josephine helped highlight the importance of volunteerism and ensured park projects were supported and celebrated.

⚓ Leading During Major Events
Josephine’s coordination during the Sail Yorktown Festival—recruiting and organizing over 100 volunteers—was exceptional. Her organization, energy, and leadership were central to the event’s success.

💡 A Lasting Impact
Josephine brought creativity, professionalism, and heart to every project. The tools she developed for onboarding, communication, and volunteer recognition will continue benefiting the park for many years to come.

Thank you, Josephine, for your dedication, compassion, and remarkable leadership. Colonial NHP is better because of you, and we’re so grateful for the connections and improvements you’ve inspired this year. 💛

We will miss you- and you will always be part of our park family. Wishing you all the best on your next adventure!

🎓⚓ WHAT A WAY TO WRAP UP COAST GUARD BIRTHDAY WEEK! 🇺🇸

We closed out an incredible week at Training Center Yorktown by celebrating the newest graduates of:

⚓ BM “A” Class 8-26
🔎 IS “A” Class 5-26
🛠️ DC “A” Class 5-26

After weeks of hard work, training, teamwork, and determination, these Coast Guardsmen are ready to take the skills they’ve earned here and put them to work across the fleet.

There’s something especially fitting about graduating during Coast Guard Birthday Week. For 236 years, Coast Guardsmen have answered the call to serve — and this week, we watched another group prepare to carry that legacy forward.

Congratulations to all of our graduates, and a huge THANK YOU to the instructors, staff, families, and shipmates who helped them GET TO THE TAPE! 🏁

Now it’s time to head to the fleet, make a difference, and BE A REPEATER!

🌳 A Living Witness to History 🇺🇸

Today, Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown proudly dedicated The Witness Oak, a living landmark that has stood watch since circa 1725.

Long before the birth of our nation, this historic oak overlooked the land where Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hamilton, later known as the Father of the U.S. Coast Guard, led the daring nighttime bayonet charge on Redoubt 10—a pivotal victory that helped secure American independence.

As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, the Witness Oak stands as a lasting reminder that bold leadership and steadfast service are the roots from which a nation grows.

The new plaque ensures this remarkable piece of history will continue to inspire all who train, teach, and serve at Training Center Yorktown.
