Day 3 HS Geometry Fun! - Indirect measurement using Trig

The students made a clinometer using a protractor, straw, index card, string and paper clip. The clinometer was used to measure the angle of elevation needed to calculate heights of objects. The students calculated heights for the football scoreboard, stadium bleachers, football field light poles, the high school gym and the town water tower.
Once computations were completed, they compared them to average heights found on internet for similar objects. All measurements were within the range found for each.

Camp Construct started painting their race cars they built. In STEM, students used blocks to move rovers, and in Lit Lab students created shape poems.

Our Geometry students have been working extra hard! The first day had students completing a bridge questionnaire which included the history of bridges and researching different types of bridge structures. They chose a truss bridge to build, sketch and begin construction of the building. The bridge included parallel lines and congruent triangles.
On day 2, students completed construction, researched cost of materials and gave total estimated cost. Then they tested for strength. Both held over 3300 grams of weight. Bridge 1 held up while Bridge 2 collapsed.
