Social Media Terms of Use:

The York County School Division social media accounts are provided for the community by the YCSD Community and Public Relations Office, the Superintendent and School Board members. The goal is to provide timely, relevant and accurate information about the division and to share the achievements of our students and staff. Guidelines have been established to ensure effective and open conversation. All comments posted on the division's social media accounts, including any school social media accounts, school board member accounts and those of the Superintendent, are reviewed by the individual account administrator(s) to ensure that the comments posted adhere to the YCSD Social Media Terms of Use. Please note, that these accounts are limited in scope to conveying accurate information about the division and to share achievements of staff and students. Such moderated discussion accounts are not open public forums for the discussion of any and all subjects. Informational announcements likely to garner numerous questions and comments that are beyond the scope of the staff managing the social media accounts may disallow any comment and instead provide for public comment opportunities through the division's Let's Talk platform. Further, while the division recognizes individual's rights to share differing opinions and viewpoints, YCSD must also protect the rights of YCSD staff and students in a respectful manner. Although YCSD does not discriminate against any views, we do reserve the right to hide and/or delete any comments of the following nature:

◾ Comments that may jeopardize the safety and well-being of a student or staff member. We ask all users to refrain from posting "place and time" information about our students and staff.
◾ Comments that threaten or defame any person or organization, or that violate privacy laws.
◾ Comments that are violent, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, or racist.
◾ Comments deemed to be spam (i.e. repeated postings of the same or similar comment) or attempts to advertise/promote organizations, businesses, services or products not affiliated with the school division.
◾ Comments that contain misleading or false information and fuel rumors. (An example would be the post: "I heard school will be dismissed at 11 a.m." YCSD will post school closing information as soon as a decision is made.)
◾ Comments from what appear to be fake accounts.
◾ Comments that reference specific or ongoing confidential student and/or personnel matters.
◾ Comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity.
◾ Comments that infringe on copyrights or trademarks.
◾ Comments not related to the original post are considered off topic. Comments to any particular post should be germane to that post. Commenters who wish to offer input on school system matters not addressed on our social media accounts are encouraged to contact the school or central office administration, as appropriate, or to sign up to offer public comment at a regular business meeting of the York County School Board.
◾ Comments including phone numbers, email addresses, residential addresses, or similar information.
◾ Comments that do not comport with reasonable standards of civility and decorum for our young audience (see below)

Repeat violations of these Terms of Use may result in the account being blocked/banned for a minimum of 90 days. Subsequent violations may result in the account being blocked for additional time periods applied in a progressive manner. Civility and Decorum

Comments that do not meet reasonable standards of civility or decorum may be hidden or removed. Commenters are reminded that York County School Division social media accounts are part of a public school system website and that students - most of whom are impressionable minors - are one of its main intended audiences. Students check the YCSD social media accounts frequently for important information about school events and activities and should not be exposed to comments that are likely to cause them emotional distress or that would be inappropriate in the school environment. The social media administrators will review all postings to make sure they do not run afoul of the rules nor of the division's Acceptable Use Policy regarding Internet access and practices. Comments posted by other users reflect those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official views of the York County School Division. Additionally, each post's comment section may be revised, turned off, or restricted as needed - in order to maintain an informative and friendly environment for the YCSD community. Your comments are welcome at any time. However, given the need to appropriately manage all communication responsibilities, we intend to review and post comments from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on regularly scheduled business days. We intend to review and post comments submitted at other times as soon as possible or on the next business day. Any student or staff specific concerns should be reported directly to the division or school rather than posted as a comment. YCSD students, parents, staff, and community members have several ways to report any concern:

◾ tell a trusted adult
◾ call the YCSD Hotline at 757-890-5000
◾ report it online at yorkcountyschools.org/ReportIt

Update 3:10 p.m.

This is an update from the York County School Division. Grafton Middle School will begin dismissing students for normal parent pick up at 3:30 p.m. today. Buses should begin transporting students home at approximately 3:45 p.m. Once again, all on-campus afterschool activities are canceled.

To minimize traffic disruptions, please do not come to the campus before 3:30 p.m. today.

--------------

Update 2:55 p.m.

This is the York County School Division. The Sheriff's Office has notified the division that Grafton High School can begin a staggered dismissal at 3 p.m. We do not yet have a time for the middle school dismissal. All on campus afterschool activities for the high school and middle school are canceled.

The high school will initially release bus riders only to allow the buses to clear the campus before any additional vehicles may enter or leave the campus. Once the high school buses have left the campus, YPSO deputies will open the access road for high school pick up only.
Once again, all middle school families should wait for additional information regarding dismissal times and procedures.

--------------------

Update 2:20 p.m.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has concluded their canine search of the high school and middle school. In accordance with protocols, deputies will go room to room at the high school then the middle school to place each room in the SECURE status. This means students and staff are able to turn lights back on and resume activity in the classroom - again once cleared by the Sheriff's Office.

Access to and from the building remains restricted to emergency responders and essential personnel. Students and staff are not permitted to leave the school building. Returning both the high school and middle school to normal operations to begin dismissal will take time. We will share updates regarding dismissal procedures as soon as we are able.

Once again, we ask you not to come to campus until we notify you that the school has resumed normal operations and is able to begin dismissal.

---------------------------

Update 1:50 p.m.

This is the York County School Division with an update for Grafton Complex families. The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office has deputies on site as well as a canine unit conducting a search of the campus. The Complex remains on lockdown as part of the standard response protocols and students and staff are following procedures at this time. There has been separate medical incident on the campus, resulting in an individual being transported.

We will continue to rely on the Sheriff's Office to provide updates to ensure the division does not interfere with law enforcement response.

We also ask families to avoid the area and allow law enforcement and school officials to safely manage the situation.
-----------------------------------
Update 1:30 p.m.

The Grafton Complex remains in Lockdown. The Sheriff's Office has advised us they are investigating the report of a weapon on campus. At this time, we do not have additional information to share. We know how difficult it is to wait for information and how unsettling this situation may feel for you and your family.

While we are committed to providing timely updates, we must also be careful to share only accurate and reliable information from the Sheriff’s Office.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and trust as we work with law enforcement to prioritize safety. We ask for your cooperation in staying where you are and remaining available to receive updates and instructions as needed.

4:00 PM UPDATE: Students were released from the school to return home. This investigation remains ongoing as deputies continue working to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community.

There is currently a heavy law enforcement presence at Grafton High School due to a reported potential threat of a weapon on school property.

As a precaution, the school has been placed on lockdown while deputies and school officials investigate. At this time, we ask the public to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel to safely manage the situation.

: This morning, most schools in our division received identical, robocall voicemail messages reporting a bomb threat. We immediately notified the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office to initiate a coordinated investigation. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office has identified these calls as what is known as “swatting,” a type of false report intended to trigger an emergency response. School divisions across the country have experienced a recent increase in these types of calls over the past week.

As a precautionary measure, deputies visited all 19 schools to perform a protective sweep and confirmed no evidence of a threat. You may notice an increased law enforcement presence around school campuses today. At this time, schools are continuing their normal routines.

Additionally, we want to acknowledge that any matter, whether credible or not, that threatens safety in our school community can impact our students and families. We want to emphasize that all threats against our schools are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. Our partnership with the Sheriff’s Office, our multilayered threat assessment and Standard Response Protocols help ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.

We encourage families and students to report any suspicious activity or concerns to school officials or local authorities.
The safety and security of our students and staff remain our highest priority, and we are grateful for the swift response of our school teams and public safety partners.

Thank you for your continued support of the York County School Division.

Who needs to watch Shark Tank when you can experience it live at YCSD? At this year’s Pitch Night, student entrepreneurs took the stage to present their ideas to judges and a live audience. The competition was strong, with three teams showcasing innovative solutions and creative thinking. Team DAKE Pen earned the top spot.

We thank the judges, teachers and mentors who supported students throughout this year-long journey. Opportunities like this empower students to think critically, solve real-world problems, and showcase the skills of future ready graduates.
