Today is National Food Bank Day, set aside to recognize the people and organizations working in communities across the country to make sure their neighbors have food on the table.

Here in Yorktown, that gives us a pretty great reason to recognize two people who spend a whole lot of their lives serving others: Steve and Mary Ann Stroeh.

Through Reach Yorktown Ministry, Steve and Mary Ann work alongside an incredible board and team of volunteers to care for families throughout our community. Whether it is providing food, hygiene and personal needs, connecting people with resources, or simply being there when a neighbor needs some help, their impact can be felt throughout Yorktown.

But their service extends well beyond Reach.

Steve and Mary Ann continually give their time, energy and leadership to organizations and efforts across our community. And what makes their leadership special is that they don't just show up to meetings or help make decisions. They show up to do the work.

They carry boxes. They organize. They serve. They listen. They connect people. They find solutions. They step into the places where help is needed and quietly make things better.

That kind of servant leadership helps define a community.

On National Food Bank Day, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who supports Reach Yorktown Ministry through volunteering, donations and service. And we're especially grateful for Steve and Mary Ann, for the example they set and for the countless ways they continue to invest in the people of Yorktown.

A stronger community doesn't just happen. It is built by people who choose, again and again, to show up for their neighbors.

Steve and Mary Ann, thank you for showing up. Thank you for showing us how to lead in our town.

This is Yorktown. This is your town.
