Remember when we were told there was plenty of time to review the budget?

A $500 billion error made it into the final budget language.

Not a typo in a Facebook post.

Not a mistake buried in an email.

Language approved by the Illinois General Assembly.

Democrats say it was a mistake. Fine.

But if a $500 billion error can make it through drafting, committee review, and floor votes, maybe the problem isn’t the typo.

Maybe the problem is passing thousands of pages of legislation in the middle of the night and expecting lawmakers to catch every mistake.

Government works best in daylight.

Illinois deserves better than 4 am budgeting.

Springfield is celebrating a “gas tax freeze.”

Reality?

They’re not cutting your gas taxes.
They’re not even pausing them.

They’re postponing the next automatic gas tax increase for six months.

The increase is roughly a penny per gallon.

In Springfield, delaying a tax hike by one penny is considered tax relief. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

The house just suspended its own rules so tax increases could be voted on asap.

But, they care about affordability, remember.
