June 7th is World Food Safety Day

Our sanitarians are busy all year long protecting the community, and their work is much bigger than most people realize.

✅ They conduct over a thousand food safety inspections every year.
✅They investigate foodborne illness complaints to stop problems quickly.
✅They complete new restaurant plan reviews to ensure facilities meet health codes before opening.
✅They inspect temporary food booths at fairs and festivals.
✅They check mobile food trucks to keep food safe on the go.
✅And even during power outages, floods, and fires, they’re out there making sure food stays safe for everyone.

But here’s the part many people don’t think about: While our sanitarians are out and about in the community, they can’t check the food in your home. That’s where you come in.

To help keep you and your family safe, check out these home food safety tips!

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and it’s the perfect moment to shine a light on a condition that too often goes unnoticed until it becomes life‑changing.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection spread by black‑legged ticks, and cases continue to rise across the U.S., including here in Illinois.

Early symptoms can look like everyday fatigue or a summer cold, which is why awareness matters so much. The sooner it’s caught, the easier it is for healthcare professionals to treat.

If you spend time outdoors, especially in wooded or grassy areas, a little prevention goes a long way: tick checks, repellent, and knowing what early signs look like.
