Keeping our officers trained and prepared is an important part of keeping our community safe.

On August 31 and September 1, the Yorkville Police Department held its annual fi****ms training. Officers spent the days working through several courses of fire and qualifying on a variety of weapons.

We are happy to report that all of our officers successfully completed the training and their required qualifications.

Training like this gives our officers the opportunity to keep their skills sharp, work together, and make sure they are prepared when the community needs them.

We are proud of the work our officers put in and their continued commitment to serving the Village of Yorkville.

This past week, Yorkville School Resource Officers serving the Whitesboro Central School District, Officer Visalli and Officer Scerbo, attended the SNYJPOA Conference in Penn Yan, New York. The conference provided valuable training and professional development on a wide range of topics focused on school safety, student well-being, law enforcement practices, and strengthening partnerships between schools, law enforcement, students, families, and the community.

The training provided Officer Visalli and Officer Scerbo with additional knowledge, resources, and strategies that can be applied to their roles within the Whitesboro Central School District. The information gained will assist the SROs in continuing to promote a safe and supportive school environment, strengthen relationships with students and staff, improve preparedness for critical incidents, and enhance collaboration between the school district, law enforcement, families, and the community.

New York’s second statewide Speed Week enforcement campaign is underway from August 3 through August 9, 2026.

During this campaign, the Yorkville Police Department will increase patrols and focus on speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and Move Over Law violations.

Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, put mobile devices away, never drive under the influence, and move over or slow down when approaching emergency and roadside vehicles.

Please allow extra time to reach your destination. A few extra minutes can help prevent a ticket, reduce the risk of a crash, and keep everyone on our roadways safe.

Speeding can have lasting consequences for individuals, families, and the entire community. Please drive safely and responsibly.

The Yorkville Police Department is investigating several larcenies from vehicles that occurred overnight between 10:00 p.m. on July 30 and 6:00 a.m. on July 31, 2026.

The incidents occurred primarily on the east side of the Village, particularly in the Caroline Street area. Several vehicles were entered, and personal property was removed.

Residents in the area are asked to review any home security, doorbell, or surveillance video recorded during this time. Anyone who may have captured suspicious activity, individuals, or vehicles is asked to contact Officer Zach Correnti at the Yorkville Police Department.

Residents are also reminded to:

• Lock all vehicle doors
• Remove valuables from vehicles
• Keep personal property out of sight
• Never leave keys or key fobs inside a vehicle
• Report suspicious activity immediately

The Yorkville Police Department was excited to participate in Mastrovito Hyundai’s Annual Safety Event and Chicken BBQ, held in conjunction with the Village of Yorkville’s Annual Family Fun Night.

This fantastic community event featured bounce houses, inflatable games, music, raffle baskets, face painting, ice cream, chicken barbecue dinners, and displays from several local law enforcement agencies. The Yorkville Police Department also conducted free child safety seat checks and provided a properly installed carseats when needed.

We sincerely thank Mastrovito Hyundai, the Village of Yorkville, the event organizers, volunteers, participating agencies, and everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success.

The Yorkville Police Department is always grateful for opportunities to connect with the families and residents we serve, and we were honored to be part of this wonderful community event.
