Olive Garden is coming to Yorkville! I am excited to announce that Yorkville will soon welcome its first sit-down national chain restaurant – Olive Garden – to Kendall Marketplace! This is an exciting new chapter for our city.

In collaboration with Darden Restaurants, City Staff will review plans as they are submitted over the coming months for the proposed 7,800+ square-foot restaurant at 978 Edward Lane, along Route 34. Additional information about this project will be provided as it becomes available. Initial estimates include that about 80 jobs will be created with this new investment in our community.

We anticipate Olive Garden breaking ground in late 2026 and look forward to the doors opening in 2027.

We’re celebrating a major milestone for two of YPD’s very own.

Today, Officer Ryan Goldsmith and Officer Tim Kolowski mark 20 years of serving our city!

A lot has changed over the past two decades, both within our department and throughout our community, but one thing that hasn’t is your willing commitment to serving others. Even on the days that feel like “work,” you continue to show up, dig in, and lead by example (and we’ve got the photos to prove it).

Ryan and Tim, how do you properly say thank you for 20 years of service? We’re not sure it can be fully captured in words, but we hope you know you are sincerely valued.

You are great coworkers, champions for our city, and according to a recent poll of YPD staff......considered friends.

Congratulations, fellas!

Happy Anniversary, Officer Bret Johnson!

We pulled Officer Johnson off his daily patrol for a quick lightning round of questions to celebrate his 1-year anniversary with YPD. As you can see, he definitely loves being the center of attention…

Bret, we’re grateful to have you on Team YPD. Here’s to year one—and many more ahead!

Not every call involves flashing lights and handcuffs… sometimes it’s a steaming hood on Rt. 47.....

We recently received this message and wanted to share:

“Good morning Chief Jensen,
This morning I was driving on Rt 47 during rush hour when my car started overheating. I pulled over, put my hazards on and opened my hood. Officer Sam Stroup pulled up within a minute to make sure I was safe and see what was going on. Officer Stroup was so helpful, I didn't know of any local towing companies and he suggested one. I was unable to reach them and Officer Stroup asked dispatch to call them.

Officer Stroup stayed with me while I waited for my husband and the towing company. He was a great person to talk to while I waited and made my stress level much calmer.

Please give a shout out to Officer Stroup, he deserves it and I truly appreciate him stopping and assisting!”

Moments like this are a good reminder—policing isn’t just about enforcement. It’s about helping people, easing stressful situations, and just being there when it counts.

Nice work, Sgt. Stroup. We appreciate you taking care of our community. The beard has grown over the years, Commander McMahon loves it..... but how you treat our community hasn't.
