Incident #1
At approximately 5:16 p.m., the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 500 block of Powers Court for a reported structure fire. Initial reports indicated there was a possible electrical fire.
The first arriving chief officer reported a two-story multi-unit residence with visible fire on the second floor. The first arriving engine company deployed an attack line and made entry into the fire unit. Crews quickly located the fire and began extinguishment operations.
Additional companies arrived on scene and conducted primary searches of both the fire unit and adjacent unit. With assistance from the Yorkville Police Department, crews were able to locate and remove three dogs, three cats, two ducks, and one lizard from the building. Fire crews also located two chickens in the fire unit that had perished.
Once the fire was confirmed under control, crews continued overhaul operations to check for fire extension and conducted ventilation efforts.
Due to the extent of damage to the fire unit, the residence was deemed uninhabitable. The American Red Cross was notified and provided assistance to the displaced residents.
