Initial Strength Test (IST)

Youngstown Squad got after it today by conducting an IST. We utilize the IST to help applicants establish their baseline preparedness for the Physical Fitness Test (PFT). It consists of max pull ups, a timed plank, and a 1.5 mile run. We use your score from the IST and create a strong training plan for you based on our PT prep guide found on the second slide.

Test your physical fitness and your perceived mental limitations.

OCS Graduation alert!

After 10 weeks of constant evaluation in their physical fitness, academic, and leadership abilities, these two have earned their keep.

OST Kent saw two additional graduates from OCS this weekend.

Now 2ndLt Durkee graduated OCS and commissioned through the Officer Candidates Course program. He’s now on his way to The Basic School where he’ll learn the basic of being a Marine Officer.

Officer Candidate (and LCpl) Tonkinson graduated through the Platoon Leaders Class program. After one final year of college, he’ll go on to commission and attend TBS as well.

You two have made OST Kent proud; you will both make fine Marine Officers and your Marines will be lucky to be under your charge.

Semper Fidelis, and congratulations gentlemen!

Receiving your Eagle, Globe, and Anchor is what separates us from the other branches. Once you’re handed your EGA, you bear the title of Marine. It is a testament to the works you’ve put in but also a reminder that you must fight to continuously earn the title every day.

Candidates from Alpha and Delta Companies received their EGAs this week, among them are Candidates Tonkinson and Durkee from OST Kent. They have now earned their title and are well on their way to leading Marines.

Semper Fidelis, Marines.

“He who sweats more in training bleeds less in war.”

OST Kent presents the station’s new logo! It shows a simple yet effective message. You’ll find a Spartan Helmet at the forefront, a Mameluke sword and scabbard bisecting it, and a an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on the helmet itself.

For those that know anything about the Spartans, it’s this; they were warriors. Some can argue whether or not they were the most talented at the time. However, what is indisputable amongst all historians, is that the Spartans were by far the most disciplined warriors during their time. Our candidates adopt the same mantra; you don’t have to have the natural, raw talent to succeed. Discipline is the one controllable thing that will put you above the completion.

The Mameluke Sword and Scabbard represents the sword carried by a Marine Officer. We can trace this tradition back to 1stLt Presley Obannon during the First Barbary War in 1805. It stands as a testament to our legacy as Marine Officers.

Lastly, the Marine Corps EGA, it is what our candidates so viciously desire and what we, as Marines, hold so close to our hearts in an attempt to continuously earn the title everyday.

Those that choose to take the incredibly rewarding journey of becoming a Marine Officer with this station will be able to wear this logo with pride.

Never let someone else outwork you. Your discipline is the one thing you can control.

OST Kent week in review!

OST Kent has been up to a lot recently. Most importantly, Candidate Holt shipped out to and was inducted into training at OCS as part of India Company. He will now undergo five weeks physical fitness, academic, and leadership evaluation.

OST Kent representing at PLC Juniors Graduation! Give him one!

Today, graduated from his first session at Officer Candidates School. After six weeks of evaluation in physical fitness, academics, and leadership potential, he demonstrated that he has what it takes to become a Marine Officer. His hard work, determination, and will to win have paid off.

Now that he has graduated, he will return to school, where he’ll continue to work towards his degree and train towards his next evolution of OCS at PLC Seniors. His next step, commissioning as a 2ndLt.

Semper Fi, Mason, looking forward to having you back at the OST to help educate the pool on how to succeed at OCS, just as you did.
