Well, to say the least, last nights Explorer meeting was pretty fun! K9 Officer Stafford and K9 Shadow paid our Explorers a visit. After a brief PowerPoint, K9 Officer Stafford conducted a narcotic search, article search, a line bite, and handler protection demonstrations. After the demonstrations, the Explorers had time to ask questions one on one with K9 Officer Stafford and K9 Shadow.

Last Wednesday, the Explorers were introduced to traffic stops. After instruction, they were all given opportunities to conduct their own traffic stops while being coached by the Instructors.

During last nights Explorer Meeting, Explorers were exposed to basic patrol functions with tools and vehicles Officers use daily. After they were given a presentation on handcuffing techniques there was enough time for some practical hands on training.

We are one week away from starting our Explorer Program for 2021. First Explorer meeting is Tuesday, Sept 14th at 6pm located at the Lewiston Police Department. There is still time to join if you or anyone you know is interested in joining.

Day 3 and the Explorer Basic Training is complete!

Today started with hands on simunition fi****ms training. Explorers used simunition rounds (paint) while Officer Comerford had them run through some firearm drills. Simulated traffic stops were conducted teaching them how many steps and actions are needed to conduct a safe and proficient traffic stop. There, the Explorers utilized the phonetic alphabet and radios while speaking to a mock dispatch (Officer Varney).

The day concluded perfectly, thanks to Warren’s Village Hardware volunteering to help us conduct a scenario involving their business. The Explorers were given a call from dispatch (Officer Varney) stating that there was a theft complaint at the Village Hardware. When Explorers arrived on scene their training involved talking with employees and asking the right questions in order to gain more knowledge of their possible suspect and what happened. Depositions were discussed along with evidence. At the end of the scenarios, the Explorers did a great job and were exposed to what a typical theft complaint looks like when on patrol.

On Tuesday, July 27th, Day 2 of the Lewiston Police Explorer Basic Training, the Explorers conducted and completed CPR training at Upper Mountain Fire Company earning their certificate of completion making them CPR certified to help others in need. A big thank you to John Malinchock for volunteering his time to educate our Explorers!

CPT Cain taught them introduction classes to New York Penal Law, Article 35, and Criminal Procedure Law.

Explorers were educated on gun and range safety with a presentation on Traffic Stops preparing them for their activities and scenario based training for the next day.

Lunch was by Como Deli on Center, located in the Village of Lewiston and provided by the Lewiston Police Explorer Program.

07/27/2021

Yesterday, Day 1 of 3 of the Lewiston Police Explorers Basic Training was a success. Explorers were issued their polo shirts and training duty belts with plastic blue training gun (training purposes only) and handcuffs.

PT test
1 minute public speaking drills
Patrolling 101
NY Vehicle and Traffic Law
Handcuffing techniques

A great lunch from our own local restaurant, Toast and Roast Cafe, was provided by the Lewiston Police Explorer Program.

Explorer Meeting 11/20/19:

Last night Explorers took part in a defensive tactics class. They were taught how to break fall, jab, hook, and cross, and how to properly identify themselves to a suspect.
