The members of Mahoning County Hazardous Materials Response Team have successfully completed our annual inventory audits and comprehensive inspections of all apparatus and equipment.

These inspections ensure that every tool, vehicle, and piece of specialized equipment is fully operational, properly maintained, and ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Staying response-ready is a critical part of our mission to protect the communities we serve.

Great work by all personnel who dedicated their time and attention to keeping our team prepared and mission-ready.

🏛️ 🏢 Mahoning County Government Offices and Courts to Close on Monday, January 26, 2026

[YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO] – On behalf of the Mahoning County Judges, Sheriff, County Engineer, Commissioners, and Emergency Management Agency, all county offices and courts will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, due to hazardous winter weather conditions.

This decision was made as a proactive measure to ensure the health and safety of our employees and the residents of Mahoning County.

Closure Details:

Non-Essential Services:
All non-essential county services are suspended for the duration of the day, Monday, January 26, 2026.

🚨 Essential Services:
Emergency services, law enforcement, and road department crews will remain fully operational to address weather-related issues and maintain public safety.

The Mahoning County Commissioners, Judges, Sheriff, County Engineer, Commissioners and EMA urges all residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay tuned to local media for further updates regarding office reopening schedules.

Today’s members reviewed propane flaring and leak mitigation operations, along with our fair response plan in preparation for the 2025 Canfield Fair. Following the training members took advantage of the fairgrounds to do some drivers training in Hazmat-1.

Thank you to Youngstown Professional Fire Fighters Local 312 Technical Rescue Team for inviting us to train last week. Joint trainings allow us to build better working relationships that better serve residents and visitors of Mahoning County.

Over the weekend, Mahoning County Hazmat hosted a propane response class taught by Ron Huffman of responder training enterprises. The class covered basic to advanced operations on propane calls and hazards first responders may encounter. This class was also the team in-service training for the new propane flare and response kits purchased from Responder Training Enterprises. Special thanks to Cardinal Joint Fire District for the use of their training room and MCCTC Adult Career Center for the use of the Fire academy training grounds for the hands-on portion of the training. Also, Thank you to CJFD for the use of S-102 on Saturday and Springfield Township Fire & Rescue for the use of T-23 on Sunday for the hands-on portion of the training.
