It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of retired K9 Gino.

K9 Gino served the Youngstown State University Police Department with honor and dedication after joining the agency in 2014 as an explosive detection canine. Alongside his handler, Sergeant Mehley, Gino played a vital role in protecting our campus and surrounding communities for 10 years.

Following his retirement in 2024, Gino remained in the loving care of Sergeant Mehley, where he enjoyed his well-earned retirement.

We extend our deepest condolences to Sergeant Mehley and his family during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, K9 Gino. Your service and loyalty will never be forgotten. ๐Ÿ’™
