Please vote NO
Our department receives our funding from property taxes.

Amendment 5 would allow major corporations to NEGOTIATE what they pay in property taxes and whether they pay them at all. It would let one group of taxpayers, industrial manufacturers, have a different set of rules for taxes than anyone else. Instead of paying the tax rate approved by voters, they would be able to pay whatever amount they’re able to negotiate through special agreements called cooperative endeavor agreements.
This would affect taxes collected by both Municipal and Parish Governments. Meaning cuts to current Public Services or increases in taxes for homeowners, renters and small businesses.

******PLEASE SHARE******

Please support parish fire protection.

It will appear on the ballot as “Parishwide Proposition – .25 Mills Rededication – PC – 5 Yrs.“.

As we begin early voting, I encourage you to vote YES for the Parish-wide property tax rededication.

This is NOT a new tax, only a better use of existing tax money.

If rededicated, it would provide nearly $500,000 per year for Parish Fire Protection and Road Construction.

*****Citizens of The City of Youngsville*****
Tonight September 10, 2020 the City Council will be discussing entering into a contract with Acadian Ambulance Service. Unfortunately, The Youngsville Professional Firefighters Association would like to voice some concerns with this agreement. The current contract that Acadian Ambulance operates with, requires a response time of 12:59 outside of the City Limits of Lafayette 70% of the time. Under the same contract emergencies in the city limits of Lafayette have a required response time of 08:59 80% of the time. The new contract that is being proposed has a response time of 10:59 inside the city limits of Youngsville. Our question to our elected officials as they make this critical decision tonight is this:

“Why are our citizens being treated differently than the citizens of Lafayette?”.

We understand that the 2 minutes’ difference doesn’t seem massive to the general public; however, this can mean the difference between life and death. According to the American Heart Association every minute that goes by without medical intervention (Advanced Life Support) the chance of survival from cardiac arrest is reduced by 7%-10%. Going by this study, these two minutes will reduce you or your loved one’s chance of survival by up to 20%. The decisions made tonight by our elected officials will affect the care you or your loved one receives during an emergency.

“What we ask”

We ask that our citizens be treated fairly.
We ask for 8-minute response times or better.
We ask that fines are issued, for every response that does not meet these requirements.
Our City is truly where life is sweeter, we ask that our emergency services are “sweet” as well

If these terms are not met, we strongly urge the City Council to seek out other companies that may respond with Acadian in our city (much like other Parishes and Cities on Louisiana have done). We love our local businesses and are very proud that Acadian Ambulance was started in our Parish; however, we must take a stand for the safety of our citizens as this contract is being pushed through with little discussion or benefit for our citizens.

******FYI******

Leaving hand sanitizer in your car will not explode.

The internal temperature of the car needs to reach way over 500 degrees Fahrenheit for a bottle of hand sanitizer to combust, according to The Poynter Institute. Arizona State University researchers found that vehicles in triple-digit temperatures reached a maximum of about 160 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Poynter.

It will need an ignition source to ignite. The worst thing that will happen is the heat will cause the alcohol to evaporate leaving the gel useless.

This morning our department participated in the NO FEAR NO FUTURE Mock Drill. The drill focused on driver distractions. There is a link in the comment section with a few more photos from Acadian Airmed.

The leading cause of motor vehicle crashes are driver violation, driver distraction and driver impairment. The mock crash during NO FEAR NO FUTURE is always so impactful. This is the reality of distracted driving. Junior League of Lafayette has been presenting NO FEAR NO FUTURE for sixteen years at area Lafayette Parish schools. #NFNF #JLLafayette @ Ascension Episcopal School
