City of Youngsville Louisiana

Youngsville came to be in the early 1800's. A small group of French Acadian farmers figured it would be a good place to settle and raise their crops and families. They figured right. By 1863, the settlement had grown large enough to attain the lofty status of 'village'. In 1983, the village of Youngsville was declared a town and by 1990, the secret was out. In 2005, Youngsville was the state's fastest growing 'town.' It was then that Youngsville was elevated to the rank of 'city' and has, ever since, been the fastest growing municipality in that category as well.

Update from SLEMCO:
08/27/2020

Update from SLEMCO:

8/27/2020 3PM UPDATE - SLEMCO has 44,235 customers still without power and these customers are scattered throughout our whole service area. We are unable to provide estimates of a restoration time for these outages through Facebook. If you are without power, please report your outage by calling 1-888-275-3626 or by reporting it through SmartHub, regardless of if you had already reported your outage earlier today. Thanks!

As of 10:15 am this morning, we've restored power to several thousand SLEMCO customers. At the present time, we have 61,821 customers without power. That's down from a high of over 78,000 this morning just after 8 am. We are working on restoring feeders throughout the system. As each feeder comes on, hundreds of customers will come on - which is a very good thing. The bad news is, if you don't come on when your feeder comes on, you likely have damage at your individual location. That is likely going to take much longer to get to since we have a lot of trees and debris we are working to detangle from wire.

All downed power lines should be considered energized and dangerous. Do not approach while cleaning up debris near your home. Call 1-888-275-3626 or login to SmartHub to report outages.

08/05/2020

An important message from the U.S. Census Bureau: We are beginning the homestretch for the 2020 Census Census takers will begin going door-to-door around the country next week, to help those who haven't responded yet answer the questions. Even so, people can continue to respond on their own: online, by phone and by mail.

For all of you who support the 2020 Census, this is a time to reach out to friends, family, business associates and colleagues. Remind them to respond. Tell them how important a complete and accurate count is to our communities. If you don't have the facts, you can go to www.2020census.gov and get educated. You can also direct your friends to the website so they can learn why responding to the Census is so important for local communities and our state.

Funding for schools, hospitals, roads, assistance programs and much more are determined by Census responses. Census data give community leaders and businesses vital information to make decisions about building community centers, where to open new stores and clinics, and planning for the future. Responses are used to redraw legislative districts and determine the number of seats Louisiana has in the US House of Representatives. It's important for all of us that everyone is counted!

It affects our federal funding for the next 10 years. It's our civic duty!

Exciting news from the Diocese of Lafayette and Saint Anne Catholic Church!

Exciting news from the Diocese of Lafayette and Saint Anne Catholic Church!

Some exciting news to share with you! Plans have been announced for a new Catholic Church in the Diocese of Lafayette!

In commemoration of the Feast of St. Anne, July 26th, Fr. Michael Russo, pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville, has announced plans that new Church construction will proceed. The congregation received a general conceptual plan that will incorporate the present church building as a narthex (entranceway), providing liturgical space for the Rite of Baptism and a daytime Adoration Chapel. The new plan will preserve the present church, a historic landmark important to many Youngsville residents. The announcement is the first step moving forward. It clarifies that the present church will be preserved, new construction will be added to it, and St. Anne Catholic Church will remain on its present grounds and will not be moved to another area of the growing city.

Youngsville is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state of Louisiana, and expanding worshiping space is much needed. Plans call for a Gothic-style structure to blend with the existing church architecture and the construction of a parking lot. β€œThe real work now comes with fundraising and filling in the details,” said Fr. Russo, who was appointed St. Anne’s pastor last July. Guy and John Broussard generously made a first major donation of $500,000.00. Fr. Russo remains confident that the Catholics of Youngsville will rise to the occasion when a fundraising campaign begins.
