Great news for St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the City of Youngsville.
Some exciting news to share with you! Plans have been announced for a new Catholic Church in the Diocese of Lafayette!
In commemoration of the Feast of St. Anne, July 26th, Fr. Michael Russo, pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville, has announced plans that new Church construction will proceed. The congregation received a general conceptual plan that will incorporate the present church building as a narthex (entranceway), providing liturgical space for the Rite of Baptism and a daytime Adoration Chapel. The new plan will preserve the present church, a historic landmark important to many Youngsville residents. The announcement is the first step moving forward. It clarifies that the present church will be preserved, new construction will be added to it, and St. Anne Catholic Church will remain on its present grounds and will not be moved to another area of the growing city.
Youngsville is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state of Louisiana, and expanding worshiping space is much needed. Plans call for a Gothic-style structure to blend with the existing church architecture and the construction of a parking lot. “The real work now comes with fundraising and filling in the details,” said Fr. Russo, who was appointed St. Anne’s pastor last July. Guy and John Broussard generously made a first major donation of $500,000.00. Fr. Russo remains confident that the Catholics of Youngsville will rise to the occasion when a fundraising campaign begins.
