I’m supporting George Knox for Family Court Judge, Division M. I’ve had the pleasure of working with and being a friend of George Robinson Knox for over seven years. During this time, he has shown that he is available, committed, knowledgeable, and dedicated to doing what’s right for all of our families. As a parent of three young men, he is a great father to his boys. He knows first hand what children and families have to go through with the justice system. Please vote George Knox for Family Court Judge on Tuesday November 3rd, our family will be doing the same.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:
Matt Romero

Matt grew up in Lafayette where he graduated from Saint Thomas More Catholic High School, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. With over 18 years of experience in the banking and finance industry, he is currently Area Sales Manager at Credit Union Acceptance Company. Matt is chairman of the Youngsville Finance Committee, previously served on the board of directors for the Youngsville Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the Youngsville Lions Club, the RCAF Club, and the Krewe Des Amis and Krewe of Bonaparte. For several years, he has coached youth sports for different recreational leagues, and volunteered time with the Acadiana chapter of Susan G. Komen March of Dimes, and the Boys and Girls Club.

Matt is married to Jennifer Romero and they have two children, Carleigh and Owen. They are members of Asbury United Methodist Church and live in Cedar Hill Subdivision where Matt is a former home owners association board member.

Why are you in Rotary? I love to give back to my community, this was instilled in me during my youth by my parents. If it’s coaching my kids recreation sports team, volunteering my time with other charitable organizations, or serving my community as a City Councilman, I’ve always thought it was important to step up and give back. Rotary is another avenue for me to do this and I saw this first hand through my uncle, Dr Russell Romero who was a long time Rotarian with the Lafayette South Club. I joined Rotary because of his actions and how fondly he talked about all of his time being a Rotarian.

Great news for St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the City of Youngsville.

Some exciting news to share with you! Plans have been announced for a new Catholic Church in the Diocese of Lafayette!

In commemoration of the Feast of St. Anne, July 26th, Fr. Michael Russo, pastor of St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville, has announced plans that new Church construction will proceed. The congregation received a general conceptual plan that will incorporate the present church building as a narthex (entranceway), providing liturgical space for the Rite of Baptism and a daytime Adoration Chapel. The new plan will preserve the present church, a historic landmark important to many Youngsville residents. The announcement is the first step moving forward. It clarifies that the present church will be preserved, new construction will be added to it, and St. Anne Catholic Church will remain on its present grounds and will not be moved to another area of the growing city.

Youngsville is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state of Louisiana, and expanding worshiping space is much needed. Plans call for a Gothic-style structure to blend with the existing church architecture and the construction of a parking lot. “The real work now comes with fundraising and filling in the details,” said Fr. Russo, who was appointed St. Anne’s pastor last July. Guy and John Broussard generously made a first major donation of $500,000.00. Fr. Russo remains confident that the Catholics of Youngsville will rise to the occasion when a fundraising campaign begins.

Prayers go out to the Burley family. Ms Brenda gave part of her life to serving the Youngsville community. She was someone I could always rely on for encouragement, information, and words of wisdom as a former City Council member. She will be missed by so many, but is in a better place now.

It’s with great sadness that I share the death of Youngsville’s Brenda Burley. A former City Councilwoman for 16 years including 4 as Mayor Pro-Tem, Airport Commissioner for 12, loving family member and friend to many. Brenda was an incredible friend and an outstanding advocate and champion for Youngsville. I have so many memories of our service together and our friendship that I’ll always cherish. She believed in me from day one, treated me like family, and always inspired me to be a better person. Brenda may have been small in size but she was larger than life. She knew how to have a good time, how to handle business, and how to keep us all on our toes. Intimidating at times, she kept our meetings lively and interesting. She will be greatly missed but her legacy and influence will go down in history. Brenda was one of the most interesting people I’ve been privileged to know. She was a pilot, lived extensively over seas, & traveled the world. May she Rest In Peace and may her family find comfort during this difficult time. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/acadiana/obituary.aspx?n=brenda-joy-burley&pid=196498724
