Ypsilanti Police Volunteer Service Corp. The VSC gives back to the community by aiding the police force, serving as additional eyes and ears, VSC members also find other ways to support the YPD.

The VSC’s mission is to provide support to the Ypsilanti Police Department in ways that allows the Chief of Police to maximize the effectiveness of officers and staff in the community. Volunteers provide extra “eyes and ears” and visibility during special city events, such as parades and the Heritage Festival. They also perform walking foot patrols in the Midtown business district. For example, th

ey provide support during the VSC Academy. When performing their duties in the field, volunteers wear special uniforms and carry police radios, typically, they patrol in pairs. Volunteers observe and report. They do not intervene or make contact with anyone engaged in questionable activity. They relay information or observations of suspicious activity to officers as specified by their training or utilize their training in other fields from directing traffic to patrolling on foot, bicycle or VSC vehicle.
