- JOINT PRESS RELEASE -

Tri-Counties Thank Basin Partners for Collaboration to Deliver Water to Wildlife Refuges.

Just weeks ago, the Tri-Counties called on Basin partners to come together as worsening conditions and avian botulism threatened migratory waterfowl at Tule Lake and Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuges.

Today, critically needed water is moving to the refuges thanks to collaboration among federal agencies, Tribal governments, agricultural water users, conservation organizations, local counties and other Basin partners.

“This is what collaboration looks like, and it is what our Basin needs more of,” said Siskiyou County Supervisor Michael Kobseff. “Now we need to build on this progress and continue working toward long-term solutions for wildlife, agriculture, fisheries, water quality, and our rural communities.”

The County and Tri-Counties are grateful to everyone who helped make these water deliveries possible. This is an important step forward and a reminder of what can be accomplished when Basin partners work together.

✈️ A Big Thank You to the Crater Lake Flyers 99s!

This past weekend, the Crater Lake Flyers 99s, a nonprofit organization of female pilots based out of Klamath Falls, volunteered their time and talents at the Butte Valley Airport.

With paint supplied by the County, the group got to work repainting several areas around the airport and giving the facility a much-appreciated refresh.

Small community airports like Butte Valley benefit tremendously from volunteers who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help care for these important local facilities. The 99s have continued to support our airports over the years, and their time, hard work, and generosity do not go unnoticed!

On behalf of Siskiyou County and the communities we serve, thank you to the Crater Lake Flyers 99s for once again showing up for our local airports! We appreciate all that you do. ✈️

COOLING CENTERS!

COOLING CENTERS!

COOLING CENTERS!

With dangerously hot weather expected over the coming days, its important to keep yourself safe.

If you or someone you know needs a cool place to escape the heat, there are various cooling centers are available throughout the County.

A few reminders to help you beat the heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay indoors or in air-conditioned spaces during the hottest part of the day.
👒 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and take frequent breaks if you must be outside.
👵 Check on older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.

🐾 Don't forget about your pets!
Make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade, avoid walking them on hot pavement, and never leave people or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly very quickly.

Let's all do our part to stay safe, look out for one another, and take this heat seriously.

Before Another Wildlife Disaster: A Call to Act Together

The Tri-Counties are calling for action before another wildlife disaster unfolds in the Klamath Basin. Published by Capital Press, this guest commentary outlines the urgent need to implement the proposed 2026 Tule Lake Flow Through Pilot—a collaborative effort that could deliver critically needed water to the Lower Klamath and Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuges and help prevent another devastating botulism outbreak threatening hundreds of thousands of migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway.

This effort reflects months of collaboration among Basin partners. As the commentary explains, continued engagement from all parties will be essential to turning this opportunity into action.
