Great work by the Sutter County Sheriff's Office in making an arrest in this ag crime!

Agricultural Theft Investigation Leads to Arrest:

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect following an investigation into the theft of approximately 60 hay bales from a local farmer’s property.

On August 31, 2026, a farmer in the area of Everglade Road and Highway 113 reported that hay bales had been stolen from his property over a period of time. Due to the vigilance of the farmer, a photograph of a vehicle believed to be involved was obtained, which assisted deputies in identifying a suspect.

Through the course of the investigation, deputies determined the hay bales appeared to be taken in a pattern, with thefts occurring around the same time every few days.

Deputies later located the suspected vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 113 and conducted an investigative stop. The driver, Noel Montez, 42, of Live Oak, was identified as the suspect in the investigation, was taken into custody, and booked into the Sutter County Jail for Grand Theft of Agricultural Products.

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office would like to recognize the hard work of our B-Days Patrol Deputies for their efforts and dedication throughout this investigation.

We have worked closely with Sutter County Ag Commissioner Lisa Herbert over the years and appreciate her dedication and contributions not only locally, but statewide and nationally during her tenure. She will be missed, but we wish her the very best in her much-deserved retirement!

Last night, 8/25/2026, the Yuba-Sutter Farm Bureau was honored to host a Candidate Forum for California District 3 Candidates Dom Belza and Jamie Johannson, and US Congress District 4 Candidates Eric Jones and Mike Thompson. The candidates had the opportunity to share their perspectives on issues that are important to our community.

Tell Lawmakers to Act on Autonomous Ag Equipment before August 31!

Currently, farmers seeking to use autonomous equipment must receive approval from Cal/OSHA on a tractor-by-tractor, farm-by-farm, and field-by-field basis that has created a huge barrier to adopting technology that could improve workplace safety, assist farmworkers, and help California agriculture remain competitive.

Unfortunately the August 26th Farm Tour for Yuba-Sutter YF&R at Johl Orchards is cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Although we won't be meeting for the farm tour, we encourage our YF&R members to come together at the August 25th Candidate Forum at 6pm at the Yuba County Government Center at 915 8th Street in Marysville. We have had great energy and momentum this summer, and this will be a great opportunity to continue to connect. learn, and grow together, as we set our sights on September and our drive-thru-BBQ event!
