Yukon Firefighters are proud to announce the Paramedic Certification of Corporal Jake Neuenschwander. Jake started his EMT training in 2013, when he obtained his EMT certification. This level teaches patient assessment, O2 administration, bleeding control, AED, splinting, and administration of a few medications. In 2016, he obtained his Advanced EMT certification at Redlands. Advanced EMT’s can initiate IV therapy, advance airway (intubation), and the ability to administer a few added medications (IV Dextrose, Nitroglycerine). Then recently he completed his Paramedic training at Oklahoma City Community College and passed his written national certification test. He will now have the ability to obtain/interpret EKGs and administer over 30 life-saving medications. For trauma patients, he will now be able to perform needle chest decompressions and surgical cricothyrotomy. Yukon Firefighters has the motto “Making a Difference”. This motto is visible on our responding units and is one of our core beliefs. We are very proud of Corporal Neuenschwander and his commitment to this belief.

We are grateful for the small businesses in our community! A-Z Towing was kind enough to donate several cars, one per shift. November’s company level training was to get hands on our new battery powered Holmatro combination spreader/cutter rescue tool with 18” opening and removable tips.

We are so blessed to work in such an amazing and generous community. Thank you Lowe’s Yukon for donating two pellet grills to us, one for each fire station. I have a feeling these are about to get a lot of use!

On this day 19 years ago we as a nation experienced one of our most difficult days.

What followed was an incredible showing of unity, as our country came together as one.

We remember those that were lost, we thank those who helped and we never forget what happened that day.

Corporals academy is officially over! We would like congratulate the men that made it through the week long process. Each day the guys would spend part of the day in the classroom before going outside to master the newly acquired skills that they had learned. General pump operations, drafting, tanker shuttle operations, setting up and spotting the 105’ aerial for rescue operations, and pumping the aerial to name a few. The last day consisted of a written test, and then a pumping scenario. Congratulations to our new corporals!
