Today we honor the memory of Border Patrol Agent and aircraft pilot Lester L. Haynie, who died in the line of duty on June 14, 1985. BPA Haynie had just assisted with the arrest of a group of illegal aliens when his plane struck power lines and crashed. Agent Haynie was 39 years old at the time of his death and was a 10-year veteran of Yuma Sector. The United States Border Patrol offers our tribute to the life and service of BPA Haynie. You will never be forgotten.

On April 30, 2026, a suspicious white truck with construction markings was detected near the border wall in Andrade, California. Yuma Station Border Patrol agents quickly responded and spotted the vehicle speeding toward Interstate 8. As agents attempted to initiate a vehicle stop, the truck pulled to the side of the highway and 22 subjects fled in different directions. CBP Air Interdiction Agents from the Yuma Air Branch assisted the agents on the ground with locating a total of 22 Mexican nationals who were arrested for being in the United States illegally. Agent interviews identified the driver of the vehicle, who is being charged with 8 USC 1324 for Alien Smuggling.

Smugglers only care about lining their pockets with money. They recklessly endanger the lives of the illegal aliens they smuggle, our agents and members of our communities. Do not believe the lies about the border being open; the border is sealed and any illegal entry will lead to arrest, criminal charges, and deportation.

During a five-day enforcement operation from May 11-15, 2026, Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested 52 individuals illegally present in the United States along major Arizona highways (I-8, I-10, and I-40). Of those arrested, 36 were found actively operating commercial vehicles—many with commercial driver’s licenses issued from California, New York, Washington, and Virginia despite their illegal status.

The individuals were nationals of India, Turkey, Mexico, Russia, and El Salvador. Several individuals possessed Employment Authorization Documents, which were obtained during the previous administration that are no longer valid. All individuals were processed and will be deported in accordance with federal law.

This operation reinforces our commitment to public safety and the enforcement of immigration laws.
