🚨 SAFETY ALERT – COLORADO RIVER / MARTINEZ LAKE AREA 🚨

The Martinez Lake Fire District is notifying residents, campers, recreationists within our fire district boarders and including recreational areas along the Colorado River of a potential public safety hazard.

On February 18, 2026, the Martinez Lake Fire District received a letter from the U.S. Department of the Army requesting assistance in notifying the public of the potential to discover unexploded ordnance (UXO) associated with past military training activities in the Martinez Lake Impact Area.

Some land in these areas is identified under the Department of Defense’s Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) Program. Available information indicates that military munitions may be present on or below the ground surface, including in undeveloped desert areas, riverbanks, and recreational zones.

⚠️ If you see something suspicious: FOLLOW THE 3Rs OF EXPLOSIVES SAFETY

🔴 Recognize – Unfamiliar, old, or rusted objects may be dangerous
🟡 Retreat – Do NOT touch, move, or disturb it; leave the area
🟢 Report – Call 911 and report what you saw and where

Local authorities will coordinate with DoD Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel as needed.

Our Easter Bunny is on his way! We're just 2 days away from our Easter Happenings at the river. If you're an early bird, join us for the Easter Sunrise Service at 7:30 AM. We'll have coffee, donuts, and a little dose of religious inspiration to start your day perfectly!
Exciting news! An additional 250 Easter eggs will be available for the River Kids Easter egg hunt. A big thank you to Gina & Harry for this donation, and to Steve and Janessa Dart, as well as Tom and Maria Bossard, for their generous donation of 1,000 Easter eggs. That gives us a total of 1,250 Easter eggs to hide! We need a few volunteers to help hide the eggs. If you can help, please meet us on the back patio at Fisher’s at 9:30 AM.
If you forget an Easter Egg bucket TowBoat U.S. Fisher’s Landing, has you covered. They have egg collecting buckets (while supplies last) to pass out to the river kids!
Hope to see you all Sunday!

UPDATE: Bama's owner has been located and they will be reunited this afternoon!! Cheers to the community for looking out for this guy.

We currently are holding this poor lost pup. He was found last night on the sand bar near Fishers Landing Resort. We will be calling animal control to come scan for a chip, but if you know where this good boy belongs give the main station a call at 928-342-7961

Refuge fire update 5/29.....

Start Date: May 25, 2024

Size: Approximately 1041 Acres

Percent Contained: 61 %

Cause: Human Caused, Under Investigation

Vegetation: Salt Cedar and Riparian vegetation

Resources: 2 Crews, 8 Engines, 1 Helicopters, 1 Dozers, 1Water Tender and Additional Support Personnel

Number of Personnel Assigned: 116

Update: Fire crews will continue to monitor and patrol hot spots within the interior of the burned area for days or weeks to come. Crews will also be conducting suppression repair efforts to return the burned area to pre-fire condition as much as possible to maintain critical habitat. The Central West Zone Incident Management Team (CWZT3) will transition all fire resources back to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Friday. The fuels involved in the burned area will continue to smolder for weeks due to weather conditions, higher temperatures, wind gusts and lower relative humidity. These conditions will play a part in how long unburned vegetation will need to be monitored. Fire resources will remain on the fire for as long as a threat persists while being under the management of the Service.

Community Response: Roadways on the Imperial National Wildlife Refuge will remain closed for an undetermined time whilefirefighters continue monitoring, patrolling hot spots. We are requesting that the public continue to exercise patience during the closure for the safety of themselves and fire crews. There are currently no immediate threats to surrounding communities, infrastructure, or natural resources.

Smoke: Smoke production is very limited, but some smoldering of fuels will produce smoke for weeks to come.

Closures: Red Cloud Mine Road and service roads on the Refuge.

Fire Restrictions: No fires are allowed in Fish and Wildlife Service areas.
