MARTINEZ LAKE FIRE DISTRICT PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: HEAT-RELATED ILLNESSES
As temperatures rise in our region, Martinez Lake Fire District urges all residents and visitors to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Extreme heat can quickly become life-threatening if not recognized and treated early.
Common Heat-Related Illnesses & Symptoms
Heat Cramps
Muscle pains or spasms (often in legs or abdomen)
Heavy sweating
Heat Exhaustion
Heavy sweating
Weakness or fatigue
Dizziness or fainting
Nausea or vomiting
Headache
Cool, pale, or clammy skin
Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency)
High body temperature (103°F or higher)
Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
Confusion or altered mental state
Rapid pulse
Possible loss of consciousness
When to Seek Medical Help
Call 911 immediately if someone:
Shows signs of heat stroke
Becomes unconscious or unresponsive
Has a seizure
Is confused or unable to stay awake
Seek medical attention if someone:
Has symptoms of heat exhaustion lasting more than 1 hour
Is vomiting repeatedly
Has worsening symptoms despite cooling efforts
Prevention Tips
Drink plenty of water—don’t wait until you’re thirsty
Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
Limit outdoor activity during peak heat (10 AM – 6 PM)
Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas
Never leave children or pets in vehicles
Stay Safe, Stay Cool
