Yes For Yuma Public Safety Together, your Yuma police officers and fire fighters handle more than 230,000 calls to the city’s emergency dispatch center annually

Together, your Yuma police officers and fire fighters handle more than 230,000 calls to the city’s emergency dispatch center annually – crimes in progress, fires, car crashes and child drownings, heart attacks and emergency rescues. That's 26 calls each and every hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We get a call from the residents we serve every two minutes or so, all day, every day. We handle

your emergency calls with fewer than 300 sworn police officers and fire fighters. Together, the men and women on the frontlines of Yuma public safety serve more than 93,000 residents and 80,000 winter visitors spread out across 120 square miles. When it comes to public safety, every second counts. That’s why your police officers and fire fighters are asking you to vote Yes on Proposition 407. This measure guarantees your property taxes will remain stable until at least 2020.

Thank you.

Surge in calls to the office. More than 100 callers on hold. Wait times can exceed one hour. Expect delays, even with our callback feature.
Yesterday, PSPRS informed its members and retirees of excess contribution refunds due to some Tier 1 and 2 CORP members and some Tier 2 PSPRS members who work for or worked for 142 employers impacted by a retroactive lowering of contribution rates.
We're here for our members and retirees but many, many callers can spare themselves the wait by reading our excess contribution webpage that covers the who, what, when, why and how.

Public safety matters in Yuma. That's why we're urging a YES vote on Prop 407. We want our frontline cops to keep taking our "Most Wanted" off the streets.

The following fugitives who previously appeared in the Yuma’s Most Wanted column in the Yuma Sun have been arrested and are back in local custody:

This Prop 407 explainer from KYMA's Chorus Nylander does a good job laying out the case for Yes on 407.

“They help out a lot for the community and if we pitched in a little more we would get better satisfaction from the people I think it would really help out”, said Yuma resident Hector Martinez Rubio.

If passed the measure would not go into effect until January 1st, 2017.

“So what a great trade off for just cents on a 10 dollar purchase you can help keep yuma streets safe keep the fire department and police department well trained and still pay below the national average in sales tax.”

You’ve seen the signs for Proposition 407, which is endorsed by Police and Firemen, but what is the measure all about? “Proposition 407 is a proposed point 3 percent increase for the sales tax in the city of Yuma”, said Yuma spokesperson Dave Nash. The city says Prop 407 will serve as a temporary alt...
