☀️ Summer is here, and that means backyard BBQs, pool days, and making memories with family and friends! While you're keeping an eye on the grill, make sure someone is keeping an eye on the water by assigning a Water Watcher. 👀💦

Active supervision is one of the best ways to help keep everyone safe around the water.

🕵️‍♀️ A Water Watcher should:
💦 Stay alert and avoid distractions like social media or texting.
💦 Never leave children unattended — accidents can happen in seconds.
💦 Rotate every 15 minutes to keep attention focused.
💦 If a child is missing, always check the water first.
🛟 Remember, flotation devices are not a substitute for active supervision.

A designated Water Watcher can make all the difference in creating a fun and safe summer for everyone. 💙🌊

Water Safety Day 2026

The Yuma Fire Department was proud to participate in this year's Water Safety Day at the Valley Aquatic Center alongside our community partners.

Visitors had the opportunity to learn water safety tips, practice hands-only CPR, explore emergency equipment, and meet first responders.

As summer temperatures rise, remember the Five Layers of Protection:

• Active adult supervision
• Proper barriers around water
• Swimming and water survival skills
• Life jackets when appropriate
• CPR knowledge

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped promote water safety in our community. Together, we can help prevent drowning incidents and keep Yuma safe this summer.

Special thanks to the Greater Yuma Water Safety Alliance and all participating agencies and organizations for making this event possible.
