Just a heads up guys... the cost of living raise information...

Social Security beneficiaries will experience several critical changes starting in January 2026, including a cost-of-living increase and significant updates to tax deductions and Medicare premiums.

Benefit and Earnings Changes for 2026

Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA): Benefits will increase by 2.8%. For the average retired worker, this translates to an estimated monthly increase of $56, raising the average check from $2,015 to $2,071.

Maximum Benefit: The maximum monthly benefit for a worker retiring at full retirement age will increase to $4,152 (up from $4,018 in 2025).
SSI Payments: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments will also rise by 2.8%, with the first increased payments scheduled for December 31, 2025.

Earnings Limits: If you work while receiving benefits before reaching full retirement age, you can earn up to $24,480 annually before benefits are temporarily withheld.

Tax and Deduction Updates
New Senior Deduction: Eligible taxpayers aged 65 and older can claim a new $6,000 deduction ($12,000 for couples if both qualify) for the 2026 tax year, enacted under the "One Big Beautiful Bill". This deduction phases out for individuals earning over $75,000.

Taxable Wage Cap: The maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security payroll tax will rise to $184,500 from the 2025 limit of $176,100.

Standard Deduction: The general standard deduction is also increasing to $15,750 for single filers and $31,500 for married couples filing jointly.

Medicare Impacts
Part B Premiums: The monthly base premium for Medicare Part B is projected to rise nearly 10% to $202.90. Because these premiums are often deducted directly from Social Security checks, this increase may offset roughly $17.90 of the monthly COLA raise for many beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries can view their specific 2026 benefit amounts by signing into their personal my Social Security account.

Woohoo... something great to keep in mind!

Thinking about buying a car? You might be eligible for a deduction, too. Starting this year, you may deduct interest paid on a loan to purchase a qualifying vehicle.

This year is the same Well, Facebook just reminded me about how much Colorado Department of Revenue likes being last in the tax race! This doesn't hinder working on information for entry of federal, i just can't follow through with Colorado and to e-file yet. They gave an estimated time of the middle of February, hopefully that isn't extended!

Just to let my Colorado clients know...

"The Colorado individual state tax form DR 0104 has not been released at this time.

According to the Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR), the department said the delay in processing tax returns was due in part to voters' approval to lower the state's income tax from 4.5% to 4.4%, along with multiple legislative changes. Those factors made for a larger end-of-year programming workload, CDOR said.

The Department’s employees are working to resolve the situation as fast as possible to reduce any inconvenience this may have for taxpayers, said Mark Ferrandino, Executive Director of the Department of Revenue. “We are committed to making sure our systems are thoroughly tested to prevent any errors that could result in additional delays in processing returns and refunds for Colorado taxpayers after the fact.”

This should not hinder inputting all returns information, just delaying the verification that all is inputted correctly before Colorado released the individual tax form. I am still working on returns and inputting all information and hopefully, Colorado will release all forms sooner than February 22nd.

I will keep everyone up to date as soon as I hear it.

Thank you all for your patience."

Well....it is about to begin! The tax season is upon us! I just received a notice stating the Colorado Department of Revenue will not begin processing e-filed returns until mid-February. Anticipated e-file processing start dates are as follows:

Individual – February 11, 2025
Business – February 10, 2025
Fiduciary – February 10, 2025

Once e-filing has been approved, Colorado returns can be completed and e-filed, however, there will be an acknowledgment received stating “pending – waiting for acceptance” until the Colorado Department of Revenue begins processing electronically filed returns.

On a good note, there is another TABOR refund for 2024 returns. Not as much as they were last year, but any little bit helps!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to answer any questions.

Call now to connect with business.

From the FTC:

Scammers are sending texts on WhatsApp, text messages, Facebook messenger, and emails, pretending to offer remote jobs for positions like online data specialists. They promise they’ll pay up to $600 a day, but the company hiring is a total mystery. The text only says the job’s age requirement and asks for a valid Social Security number. Before you act, know this: not only is the job not legit, but if you send your information, the scammer can use it to steal your identity and create serious problems for you.

Remember: Don’t click on links or respond to unexpected texts. If you think the text could be legit, contact the company using a website or phone number you know is real — not the information in the text.
