“Zachary Police Investigate Reported Shots Fired at Really Hot Air Balloon Festival; Determine Incident Involved Battery, No Shots Fired”
Zachary, Louisiana— On August 15, 2026, at approximately 8:11 p.m., patrol officers and officers working extra duty at the Really Hot Air Balloon Festival received multiple reports of shots fired on the festival grounds.
Officers responded quickly to the reported location and secured the scene. The officers collected numerous witness statements and reviewed security camera footage of the incident. Based on that evidence, it was determined that a battery had likely occurred and that a firearm may have been brandished, but no shots were fired. No spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, and multiple witnesses in close proximity to the incident reported that they did not hear any gunshots.
Shortly after the scene was secured, patrol officers received an anonymous tip indicating that a person of interest in the incident might be meeting someone at Rouses Market, located at 2300 Church St. Detectives and patrol officers responded and made contact with the individual. Following further investigation, that individual was determined to be uninvolved in the incident and was released.
“We are relieved the investigation confirmed there were no shots fired at the festival. Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of public safety, we made the decision to close the festival. Having officers already on-site allowed for a swift response and helped prevent any further incidents.
