The district services Scouting units and volunteers in east Muskingum, Guernsey, Noble, and Washington counties in Ohio, and Pleasants county and Williamstown WV.

A QUICK REMINDER FOR EVERY UNIT IN THE DISTRICT

Sometimes the best Scouting experiences are the ones we almost talked ourselves out of attending.

If your unit has been looking for a reason to get out this weekend, this is it. Fellowship, service, new memories, and an opportunity to stand alongside Scouts and Scouters from across our council.

We may not know what the future holds for Netawatwees Lodge, but we do know that opportunities like this are worth taking advantage of while they’re here.

Registration closes tonight. Take a few minutes, share this with your unit, and encourage your Scouts and leaders to make the trip.

Good morning, River Trails!

Attached are our updated recruitment flyers!

The Fall Recruitment flyer has been corrected after the day-of-the-week error was brought to our attention. Thank you to everyone who caught it and reached out!

You’ll also find our new Washington County Back to School Bash flyer. We’re excited to use this event as a recruiting opportunity for our local units, and we encourage everyone to invite families and bring prospective Scouts. Don’t forget—Scouts who recruit a new youth that fully registers can earn the Recruiter Patch!

For clarity, our July 29 Join Night at the Scout Office in Zanesville and our August 13 Join Night (location TBD) are district events designed to help kick off and build momentum for fall recruitment.

The River Trails Key 3 is currently looking for a location for the August 13 Join Night. We’re hoping to find a site in the Caldwell area or surrounding communities to make it easier for units and new families across our expanded River Trails District to attend. If you have a location suggestion, please comment your ideas!

📢 River Trails Scouting Family,

Please take a few minutes to look through the attached graphics in order. Each one builds on the last and shares important updates that affect every unit, every leader, and every Scout across our district.

This week’s updates include:
✅ Why membership retention matters now more than ever.
✅ Fall recruitment and welcoming new families into Scouting.
✅ Important Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) reminders and registration expectations.
✅ A warm welcome to our new units joining River Trails from the former Zane Trace District.
✅ A simple infographic I created to help explain the recent council communications in a clear, easy-to-understand format.

My hope is that this final graphic helps take information that may seem overwhelming and presents it in a way that’s easier to follow, easier to share, and gives everyone a better picture of where we are and where we’re headed.

Please don’t keep these updates to yourself—share them with your fellow leaders, committee members, parents, and anyone who supports your unit. The more informed we are, the stronger we become.

Most importantly, remember this:

This is our community. These are our Scouts.

Names may change. District boundaries may shift. Councils may evolve. But the adventure, the friendships, the values, and the mission of Scouting remain exactly the same.

Together, we’ll continue to build a strong River Trails District, welcome new families, support one another, and provide every young person with the opportunity to experience the life-changing adventure of Scouting.

River Trails District Weekly Update – July 6, 2026

We hope everyone had a safe, fun, and Scout-led Fourth of July as we celebrated America’s 250th birthday! 🇺🇸 Thank you to all of our Scouts and leaders who represented Scouting America in their communities through service, parades, flag ceremonies, and patriotic celebrations.

Week 3 of summer camp is officially complete, and we’re heading into our final week! Thank you to every Scout, Scouter, volunteer, camp staff member, and family for making this an incredible summer filled with adventure, growth, and memories that will last a lifetime.

As we finish strong, please take a few minutes to review this week’s district update and verify that your Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) is current. Keeping our training up to date ensures we’re providing the safest possible program for every Scout.

Let’s finish camp strong, continue building tomorrow’s leaders, and make this the BEST summer yet!
