Investing in Housing Stability in Guernsey County
The Muskingum Area Mental Health & Recovery Services Board is pleased to announce a $50,000 award to the Samaritan Center of Guernsey County to support its continued work providing transitional housing and services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Guernsey County.
For more than 20 years, the Samaritan Center’s Degner House has provided a safe place for hundreds of some of Guernsey County’s most vulnerable residents during times of crisis. Individuals and families may come to the Samaritan Center following a house fire, loss of employment, financial hardship, or other circumstances that have left them without safe, stable housing.
But the Samaritan Center provides more than a roof. Through individualized case management and connections to community resources, its volunteers and partners work alongside residents to identify and overcome the barriers that have prevented them from obtaining permanent housing.
The $50,000 in funding will help the Samaritan Center continue this important work by supporting utilities, maintenance and necessary repairs at the transitional house, replacement of aging household systems and equipment, housing-stability assistance such as rent and utilities, and opportunities for future expansion.
As the need for housing assistance continues to grow in Guernsey County, organizations like the Samaritan Center provide an important bridge between homelessness and a safe, stable place to call home.
