Urban Greens Growing Food, Growing Community. Together we're working to develop urban agriculture projects in Muskingum County. Urban Greens... growing with purpose!

In the summer of 2016, Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District received a grant to develop urban agriculture projects in the Putnam neighborhood! Here you will find information and updates about the project as well as ways to become involved!

We had a wonderful time at the Civic League teaching students about soil erosion and water runoff! Through our erosion simulator activity, students were able to see firsthand how rainwater can move soil, cause erosion, and carry pollutants into our waterways. They also learned how vegetation and ground cover help protect our soil and keep our water clean.

Students also planted lavender seeds to take home and grow, giving them the opportunity to continue learning about plants and pollinators at home.

A special thank you to the JW & MH Straker Charitable Foundation for making this opportunity possible through their mini grant program. Their support funded the soil erosion activity materials and flowerpots, helping us provide these hands-on educational experiences for local students.

Thank you to Bimbo QSR Bimbo Bakeries USA for donating buns to our Brighton Grows Event Series!

Their support helps us bring community members together in our gardens to learn about sustainable agriculture and connect with neighbors. Donations like this make it possible for us to provide meals and create meaningful experiences for families throughout the season.

Thank you for investing in our community and supporting the Brighton Grows Event Series!

Compost station #2 has been successfully built at our Brighton Grows Garden!

A huge thank you to Cairn Recovery Resources LLC for building this. These compost stations will help us reduce waste, improve soil health, and provide valuable learning opportunities for community members interested in composting and sustainable gardening practices.

Last Friday, we had the opportunity to work with the Zanesville Civic League! Together, we planted pollinator flowers, herbs, tomatoes, squash, and peppers while learning about planting and healthy soil.

Everyone also got to make a seed ball to take home and plant in their own gardens.

We had so much fun getting our hands dirty, learning about gardening, and helping create spaces that support pollinators and fresh food production.

We had so much fun at our June Summer Kick-Off event at Brighton Grows!

Urban Greens helped kids create seed balls to take home, while CSUE brought their popular smoothie bike for a hands-on lesson in healthy living. The Health Department engaged participants with water balloon true-or-false games focused on gardening and mental health, and ZMHA provided a creative fairy garden art activity.

A special thank you to our volunteers who helped serve sandwiches and kept everything running smoothly. We also want to recognize our Youth Garden Club for preparing our delicious "fancy water", which was a big hit with attendees!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a day of learning, creativity, and community. We can't wait to see you at our next event in July!
