At 322 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles northwest of
Escobas, or 10 miles north of Bustamante, moving east at 10 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to
roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Escobas, Randado, and Thompsonville.

building.

Prepare immediately for large hail and deadly cloud to ground

Zapata County and portions of South Texas remain under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for isolated severe thunderstorms today, with additional concerns for heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding heading into Friday night.

According to the latest Texas Weather Threat Brief issued by the National Weather Service Southern Region and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), the primary concern today is an isolated hail threat, while heavier rainfall potential increases Friday into Friday night.

🌩 Isolated strong thunderstorms
🧊 Hail up to 1–2 inches possible
⚡ Frequent lightning
💨 Wind and tornado threats remain very low

Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall may develop across South Texas.

Potential impacts include:

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed all of Deep South Texas, including Zapata County, under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather this morning.

In addition, the Weather Prediction Center (WPC) has placed Zapata County and surrounding areas under a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall Friday through Friday night.

💨 Damaging winds
⚡ Frequent lightning
🌧 Heavy rainfall
🚗 Localized flooding & dangerous driving conditions

Confidence is currently MEDIUM that severe weather and excessive rainfall may occur.

Strong thunderstorms may produce:

- Hail up to quarter size
- Wind gusts capable of causing minor damage and power outages

🚨 Weather Update for Zapata County – Conditional Severe Weather Risk Tonight 🚨

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Zapata County under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for isolated severe thunderstorms late tonight into the pre-dawn hours.

⚠️ IMPORTANT:
This remains a low confidence / conditional risk, meaning storms may not fully develop locally. However, conditions are being monitored closely due to the possibility of isolated strong to severe thunderstorms developing along or west of US-281 as a cold front approaches.

🌩 Possible Hazards If Storms Develop
• Large hail (penny to quarter size or larger)
• Damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph
• Frequent lightning
• Brief heavy downpours
• Isolated nuisance flooding and hydroplaning on roadways

💨 Strong wind gusts may:

• Bring down power lines
• Lead to isolated power outages
