The Zapata County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the addition of five new patrol units to our fleet, made possible through the Operation Lone Star Grant funded by the Office of the Governor – Public Safety Office.

These new patrol vehicles will strengthen our deputies’ ability to protect and serve the citizens of Zapata County while enhancing public safety, law enforcement operations, and border security efforts throughout our community.

The five new units are also proudly sporting the Sheriff’s Office’s classic maroon and gold color scheme and decals, representing Zapata Hawk Pride and honoring the strong traditions of our community while giving our fleet a fresh, professional appearance.

No funds from the Zapata County budget were used for the purchase of these vehicles. Every vehicle was purchased entirely through grant funding, ensuring there was no cost to Zapata County taxpayers.

Sheriff Ramon E. Montes stated:

“These five new patrol units are a significant investment in the safety of our community and the deputies who serve it every day. Thanks to the Operation Lone Star Grant and the continued support of the Office of the Governor – Public Safety Office, we were able to purchase these vehicles without using a single dollar from the county budget. Our taxpayers should know that we will continue to aggressively pursue grant funding to provide our deputies with the equipment they need while being responsible stewards of county resources. I am also proud to see these units wearing our classic maroon and gold colors, representing the pride and tradition of Zapata County.”

The Zapata County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to the Office of the Governor – Public Safety Office for its continued partnership and support in providing the resources necessary to keep our deputies equipped and our community safe.

Your trust, our mission. Your safety, our duty.

🚨TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR ZAPATA COUNTY RESIDENTS🚨

If you are planning to travel to Laredo today, please be advised that portions of Loop 20 will remain closed for most of the day following a tragic aircraft accident that occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. last night. Authorities have closed Loop 20 from Saunders Street southbound and Highway 359 northbound, with traffic being redirected through surrounding streets. Portions of Clark Boulevard and other nearby access roads may also be affected while federal agencies conduct their investigation. Motorists should expect significant delays and are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes whenever possible.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the passengers, their families, and everyone affected by this tragic incident. We also want to thank the first responders, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and all agencies working tirelessly at the scene. Please travel safely, allow for extra travel time, and continue to monitor local updates throughout the day as additional information becomes available.

Hello Zapata County residents,

This is Sheriff Ramon E. Montes. I hope everyone is safe following the storm that moved through our community earlier today. As a precaution, I encourage everyone to remain indoors as much as possible and avoid unnecessary travel. If you must leave your home, please use extreme caution and avoid all low-water crossings and flooded roadways.

The Zapata County Sheriff's Office has coordinated with other county officials to open the Zapata County Pavilion for any individual or family in need of temporary shelter for the night. Additional rainfall is still in the forecast, and conditions can change quickly. Please do not hesitate to contact the Sheriff's Office if you need assistance. Thank you for your cooperation, stay safe, and may God continue to bless our community with this much-needed rain.
