Alright guys! We're back with another writing contest. This time, the theme is "Unearth a Story" aligning with our summer reading theme this year. While we've fully committed to the dinosaur theme here at the J. Joel Edwards Public Library, you can interpret the theme of "Unearth a Story" however you like. Perhaps you'll unearth a clue that solves a mystery, or even buried treasure!
Stories must be under 5,000 words. Stories must be written entirely by you, the author. We are not interested in stories written by computers. If we receive any AI-generated materials, they will be fed to the dinosaurs and disqualified.
Stories are accepted in any format: poetry, comics, short stories, etc. We want to see your creativity. If you create any accompanying illustrations for your story, feel free to submit those too!
Kids: 0-12
Teens: 13-18
Adults: 19+
The first place winner from each age group will receive a $20 gift card. If we do not receive enough entries to award based on age groups, we will award based on the submissions we do receive.
Entries may be handwritten or typed. Entries must list the author's name, age group, and a contact phone number. Entries may be submitted in person at the J. Joel Edwards Public Library or emailed to [email protected]
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 11:59 PM ON JULY 10, 2026.
