Severe Weather Forecast
Ottawa County, Michigan
Friday, March 6, 2026
A period of unsettled weather is expected across Ottawa County beginning today and continuing through the weekend. Residents should be prepared for thunderstorms, some of which could become strong to severe.
Today (Friday)
Patchy dense fog is possible early this morning, which could reduce visibility to one quarter mile or less in some locations.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop late this morning and continue through the afternoon and evening. A few storms could become strong to severe. The main threats include:
• Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph
• Hail up to around 1 inch in diameter
• Locally heavy rainfall that could lead to minor flooding
• A brief tornado cannot be ruled out
Storms may arrive as early as late morning and continue into the evening hours. The severe weather risk may increase if storms become surface based during the late afternoon or early evening.
Tonight into Saturday Morning
Storms may briefly decrease overnight before another round moves through early Saturday morning, roughly between 4 AM and 7 AM.
This second round of storms could also produce strong winds, hail, and isolated tornado potential. Heavy rainfall from multiple rounds of storms could lead to localized flooding, especially if storms track over the same area.
Saturday
Thunderstorms may continue early in the morning before conditions improve later in the day. Southwest to west winds may gust up to around 40 mph Saturday afternoon.
Looking Ahead
Warmer than normal temperatures will continue through early next week, with highs reaching the upper 50s to 60s. Another storm system is expected Tuesday into Wednesday that could bring additional thunderstorms, followed by a transition to snow as colder air arrives.
Preparedness
Residents are encouraged to review severe weather safety plans and ensure they have a reliable way to receive weather warnings, especially overnight when storms may occur. Spotter activation may be needed later today and tonight.
