There has been more research on using technology in the classroom. This was testimony before a senate committee by Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath which I find interesting.

I wanted to remind you about our Community Facilities Survey, which is currently open for your input. The survey deadline is April 27, and we aim to gather as much feedback as possible from across our community.

Each household should have received a survey in the mail. If you have not received a survey or need another copy sent to your home, please contact the district office at 763-241-3418, and we will ensure you have access. Your input is an important part of our facilities planning process. We encourage every household to participate so we can ensure a broad range of perspectives is considered as we look ahead to future decisions.

If you have not yet had a chance to complete the survey, please take a few moments to do so before April 27.

Thank you for your time and for staying engaged in our district.

This past weekend, I attended the Consortium of State School Boards Associations (COSSBA) 2026 National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky (March 13–15). It was a fantastic gathering of school board members, superintendents, and education leaders from across the country, all focused on transformative leadership and sharing innovative ideas under the theme "Education Evolution – Transformative Leadership in Changing Times."

The event provided an excellent chance to connect with colleagues nationwide, exchange fresh perspectives, and bring back practical best practices to strengthen local school governance.
Several fellow school board members from Minnesota were there too, and we managed to snap a great group photo together—always fun to see familiar faces in a national setting!

Last Monday, I had the privilege of attending the Minnesota School Boards Association's (MSBA) Day at the Capitol (also known as Capital Day). This event provided a valuable opportunity to hear directly from our elected legislators and to engage in meaningful discussions regarding our district's legislative priorities.
School districts across Minnesota are confronting the need for significant budget reductions, largely driven by unfunded or underfunded state and federal mandates. These financial pressures were communicated clearly and consistently to legislators during the sessions. We are hopeful that this feedback will lead to more thorough assessments of potential impacts before any additional legislation affecting schools is enacted.

Today I volunteered at Rogers High School for Bite of Reality, an experiential program that challenges students to build a budget based on a randomly assigned job and family scenarios.

I helped in the clothing and personal needs section, where students had to decide how much of their budget to allocate for clothing and hair care. I was impressed by how many chose thrift stores and shared how much they enjoy shopping there. Many demonstrated strong budgeting skills—those who didn’t quickly learned when they had to return items they couldn’t afford.

Thank you to Wings Financial Foundation for supporting this impactful program!

She was found in Albert Lea! The community rallied and every resource applied and the kidnapper was caught. Pray for healing for this student and family with the horror they went through. Thanks to everyone involved for bringing her home safely! This post sums it all up.
