🌍🚽 World Toilet Day reminds us of the importance of safe, reliable sanitation for every household.

Access to proper sanitation protects public health, supports strong infrastructure, and ensures a cleaner environment for our community.

Today, we acknowledge the critical work done by sanitation professionals, utility staff, and environmental teams who help keep our systems running safely and smoothly.

Clean water. Safe sanitation. A healthier future. 💧💙

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, many of us are getting ready for big meals, sizzling pans, and even deep-fried turkeys. But what to do with all of that leftover oil? Oils can cause major problems when poured down the drain. Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) build up inside sewer pipes, leading to clogs, backups, and costly damage to our community’s wastewater system.
That’s why we created this event: to educate, protect our environment, and give residents a free, convenient, and eco-friendly way to dispose of used cooking oil.
Bring your leftover oil to us after the holiday— and at no charge, we’ll make sure it’s recycled responsibly. 🌎💧
Together, we can keep our pipes clear and our waterways clean!

Sewer Fact/Tip
Fact: In much of Carmel and Zionsville, the sanitary sewer system (which takes water from toilets, sinks, and washing machines) is completely separate from the storm sewer system (which takes rainwater runoff).

Why it matters to you:

DON'T Flush Wipes: The sanitary sewer is built to handle wastewater, not paper towels or "flushable" wipes. Flushing these items causes clogs and blockages in your home's pipes and the public system.

Keep Drains Clear: Everything that flows into a storm drain (the grates on the street) goes directly into a local creek or river, untreated. Never dump chemicals, paint, yard waste, or pet waste into a storm drain.

👉 Your action tip: "Only Flush the 3 Ps (P*e, P**p, and [Toilet] Paper) and never dump pollutants down a storm drain to protect our local environment!"

From Sewer to Soil: The Unexpected Link Between Your Drains and Local Gardens! 🌻🌱

Did you know the solid material removed during wastewater treatment doesn't just disappear? After our rigorous, regulated process, the nutrient-rich organic matter becomes what is known as biosolids.

This safe, recycled product is a valuable resource! It's used as a natural fertilizer and soil amendment on local farms, landscapes, and even in some flower beds.

It's one of the great ways your sanitary sewer service:

Protects the Environment (by recycling waste)

Saves Resources (by reducing the need for chemical fertilizers)

Helps Flowers Grow!

The work we do helps close the loop and supports a greener community.
