GOOD NEWS: Did you know that 36% of food insecure mothers skip meals due to financial reasons?

In March, staff from Eli Lilly and Company and Fluor working at the LP1 site in Lebanon, Indiana, came together to make a difference. Ahead of the Easter holiday, they launched a two-week food drive to support families in need—and their impact was incredible.

Thanks to the generosity of the team, this year’s drive far exceeded last year’s totals, collecting nearly 2,500 pounds of food and almost $3,000 in cash for The Caring Center, a local nonprofit serving Boone County families.

According to Feeding America estimates, the total value of the donation reached $4,782.72—a powerful example of what can happen when a community unites to fight food insecurity.

Last week, I attended my second LEAP update meeting at Boone County Economic Development Corporation. It was again presented by Jeff Wagner, who is the Community Relations & Communications Manager for Fluor Corporation.

Spring 2025 will mark 2 years since the
Lebanon Project Team broke ground to build Eli Lilly and Company’s largest manufacturing facility in the world. They’ve also been building integral relationships supporting the local community. Specific items of note:

- 1200 workers a day at Bldg LP 1

- 300 workers a day at Bldg LP 2

- By Spring 2026, it will be 5,000 employees

- $1.5B in contracts issued to date, for which $200M in cost savings has been achieved

It was also encouraging to hear how many local vendors are being utilized on a daily basis for electrical contracting, food services, janitorial, on-site security, etc.

These investments of both the facilities and the time/dollars into our local community will pay dividends for years to come.

It was a pleasure to sit on the panel for the State of the County event yesterday morning. I’m excited about the momentum our county is experiencing, while also focusing on the issues of importance including available housing, childcare and workforce development. Thanks go to Boone County Economic Development Corporation, Boone County Chamber of Commerce and Zionsville Chamber of Commerce for hosting this event.

We had a great 2 days at the Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) Legislative Conference. Kudos to my fellow Boone County employees and elected officials who took time out from their day jobs to attend.
