Next week, the Zionsville Police Department will welcome our Teen Academy cadets for an exciting week of learning about their local law enforcement agency and the many responsibilities of modern policing.

Throughout the week, cadets will meet police officers, participate in mock crime scene investigations, learn lifesaving CPR skills, meet K9s Sky and Mika, watch police drones in action, and experience many other hands-on activities designed to educate and inspire the next generation of community leaders.

A special thank you to Drug Free Boone County and Ken's Foods for their generous support of this program. Their partnership helps make these opportunities possible for our local youth.

We look forward to a great week with the Teen Academy Class of 2026.

Cadets, are you ready?!

🚴‍♂️ Share the Trail. Respect the Rules.

With school officially out for summer, more people will be spending time on the Big-4 Rail Trail, in our parks, and exploring the community.

The Town of Zionsville and Zionsville Police Department want to help keep those spaces safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Throughout the summer, you may see ZPD officers conducting additional foot and bike patrols along the Big-4 Rail Trail and in Town parks. These patrols provide an opportunity to connect with residents, answer questions, educate trail users, and address safety concerns when needed.

As a reminder:
✅ Human-propelled modes of transportation, Class 1 & Class 2 e-bikes, and electric personal mobility devices are permitted
❌ E-scooters, e-motos, Class 3 e-bikes, and other prohibited motorized devices are not permitted on the trail or in Town parks

A few other trail safety reminders:
➡️ Stay to the right and pass on the left
➡️ Announce yourself when passing others
➡️ Keep dogs leashed (6 feet or less) and under control
➡️ Pick up after your pets
➡️ Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings

Parents, now is a great time to talk with your children about trail safety and the rules before they head out this summer.

Our trails are shared spaces used by walkers, runners, cyclists, families with strollers, and residents of all ages. By respecting the rules and looking out for one another, we can help ensure everyone has a safe experience.

If you observe unsafe or prohibited activity, please report it to the Zionsville Police Department non-emergency line at (317) 873-5967.

🚔 Increased patrols and enforcement will continue throughout the summer.

05/11 UPDATE: FULL

2026 Teen Academy Dates: June 8 - 12, 2026

The Zionsville Police Teen Academy provides a fun, free and safe opportunity for children ages 11-15 to learn more about police work. The academy will offer classroom and practical instruction educating and simulating that of real police training. Participants will learn different laws and rules that apply to various situations the Zionsville Police Department officers may deal with on a regular basis. Most importantly, the purpose of the Teen Academy is to help reinforce good decision-making and leadership skills.

The academy is held at Mulberry Fields Park, Boys and Girls Club, Zionsville Police Department and other sites depending on the daily activities, weather and availability. The schedule will consist of daily physical training, classroom instruction and scenario training as well as a physical/social/team-building activity with the participants. Students will receive a Teen Academy t-shirt, pair of shorts and ball cap on the first day and will be required to wear them for instruction each day. We also highly recommend teens wear comfortable athletic shoes and bring a water bottle every day.

The academy will begin each day promptly at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. with graduation held at 6 p.m. on the last day. Participants will be provided a one-hour lunch break daily. Please remember to pack a meal Monday through Friday.

Lieutenant Byrum, Officer Rapala, and Officer Hole were grateful to attend the Community Responders Meet & Greet at CrossBridge Point last evening. Hosted in partnership with ILADD, an organization focused on creating housing, enrichment, and social opportunities that support independent living for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the event was a great opportunity to connect with residents in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

We appreciate the invitation and the chance to spend time with members of our community, answer questions, and continue building positive relationships. Thank you to everyone involved for helping create such a warm and meaningful event.
