The Zoar VFD was the recipient of a grant from the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) and Doug House from Corteva Agriculture which provided the department with specialized grain bin rescue equipment. The department received a corn auger and corn chute system which protects victims from shifting corn. Firefighters and local residents learned about rescue techniques and had the opportunity to train in the NECAS grain bin simulator trailer. The new rescue equipment is valued at $5,000 and is available for mutual aid calls. We would also like to thank the Heritage Cooperative for delivering and lending the 110 bushels of corn for the training event. We'd also like to thank instructors Dan Neenan and Terry Dress for putting on an awesome class!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zoar councilman Hans Fischer who devoted his life to the village he loved. Hans previously served as council president and on the zoning and planning committees and was an ardent supporter of the Zoar Volunteer Fire Department. He was a regular attendee at our fund raisers and always had a Zoar historical tidbit to share. Please keep Hans's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. We will be flying our flag at half-mast for the next several days in Hans's honor. Rest in peace, you will be missed.

Just a reminder there is an open burn ban for the entire State Of Ohio that goes into effect on March 1st and will run until May 31st. Outside municipal limits, fires are prohibited from 6am to 6pm during the months of March, April, May, October and November. It is during these times that wildfires are most likely to occur and are the most difficult to control. This ban also includes fires unintentionally started "by improperly disposing of a lighted match, cigar, or other burning or glowing substance."

DID YOU KNOW?
The Zoar Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. operates a 2017 Cub Cadet 4x4 Volunteer utility that was obtained from a grant from the Reeves Foundation to protect the many visitors who come to enjoy the historic Ohio & Erie Canal Trail and Zoar Wetlands. Utility 1608 also responds to search and rescue calls, brush fires, and supports the Civil War Reenactment as well as the numerous festivals in the village. Utility 1608 features a custom L.E.D. warning/scene light system and siren for clearing pedestrians and traffic. We strive to provide the best service possible and are always looking for ways to provide additional benefits to our residents and visitors to the village. Your Zoar Volunteer Fire Department, proudly serving since 1850!
