This morning Zuni Fire stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of the Cliff–Gila Fire Department in Grant County, New Mexico, located northwest of Silver City.

Firefighter Brittany Hathaway proudly served with the Cliff–Gila Volunteer Fire Department. She also dedicated her career to public service through her work at Central Dispatch in Grant County and as an EMT with Gila Regional EMS.

Yesterday, while responding to a medical emergency, Firefighter Hathaway suffered a medical collapse. She was transported to El Paso, where she later passed away in the line of duty.

We honor her service, her sacrifice, and her unwavering commitment to the communities she served. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her department, and all who had the honor of working alongside her.

Zuni Fire Department Safety Reminder

Earlier this evening, Zuni Fire responded to a single vehicle accident. Calls like this are never routine and they remind us how quickly things can go wrong.

Please slow down, wear your seatbelt, and stay focused when you are behind the wheel. If you are feeling tired, do not try to push through it. Pull over and take a break. Getting home a little later is always better than not getting there at all.

Take care of yourselves and each other. Stay alert and stay alive.
