North Sabine is lifting the burn ban for wards 5-10 effective immediately. When you do start burning be mindful of wind conditions as this is usually the driving factor to be able to control your fire and never leave fires unattended.

Busy week, received 78 new Drager SCBAs and spare bottles from NorthSide Sales out of Little Rock.
These packs are replacing 22 year old packs and were badly needed, and have been placed on 13 front line engines Rescue 1 Duty Crew Truck and now have 12 designated for training so we don’t have to take off inservice engines.
These state of the art SCBAs will provide more air at higher pressures to our firefighters while in hazardous environments. Our older packs were 30 minute bottles at 2216 psi - our new Dragers are 45 minute 4500 psi units allowing for longer times to do work in hazardous environments.
I’d like to thank Bret Davis with Drager and Mike Hollis with NorthSide Sales with the procurement inventory and set up of the packs this week.
Making our firefighters safer.

So as we move into 2026 I look back at how blessed we are; dropping to a Class 3 Fire Protection was by far the best news, replacing all 15 of our front line engines with brand new color coded fire hose, I personally don’t know of any department in my 40 years of service doing that on all their engines, let alone 15. It was 38,000 feet and 9.8 miles of hose.
Assistance to Firefighters Grant through FEMA for 78 new SCBAs, which was badly needed. Ordering 3 new 3000 gallon tankers; Replacing 103 our duty truck.
All of these things happening in less than 12 months is really a big deal - not many if any rual departments are progressing at the rate we have. First and foremost, our Fire Board has allowed me to manage and achieve the goals and mission I have set forth for our department; without that, no progress could ever happen, especially that fast.
Finally our membership, the men and women serving our communities, make me proud of the work and dedication to all of our NSFD communities.
Some have chosen careers in the fire service, working as professionals in Logansport, Natchitoches, Red River and Shreveport, and others are part-time with full time jobs in other fields, the greatest asset is where we all started volunteering our time. Volunteers are very special and essential to the effectiveness in delivering emergency services in a rural setting. I’ve watched all of you, your entire Firefighter vol/career, knowing you came from North Sabine since I’ve been Chief and I brag on each and every one of y’all every chance I get. Couldn’t be prouder of our group, paid and volunteers alike.
While 2025 probably will never be topped while I’m still your Chief, I never want y’all to forget what we lost this year,
Lyle Angus (Unck) - Zwolle
JP Bilyeu - Union Springs
Jerry Vines - Zwolle
Robert Gross - Noble
I am Thankful for their service to NSFD and will covet their memories I had with each til I’m no longer here.
So come on 2026, let’s keep doing what we do - best fire department ever!!!
Happy New Year
guys and thank you all.

More great news…. North Sabine Fire District has been awarded $780,000.00 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (FY) 2024.
This grant will allow us to replace 50% of our fleet Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. Our current SCBAs manufacturer no longer produces SCBAs and are becoming hard to maintain as they are more than 20 years old. Firefighters wear these packs while fighting fires and any hazardous environment that would affect their ability to breathe. The SCBAs average around $10,000.00 a piece with an extra cylinder. Every engine and service truck is required to have 4 with 4 spare cylinders.
This is the mostly expensive yet vital piece of firefighting equipment on the trucks.
After several attempts at writing this grant North Sabine was awarded to purchase 78 units and spare cylinders. This will allow us to replace all of our first due engines with new SCBAs and allow us to put the better older SCBAs to our service trucks in addition to having some for training. NSFD will have a 5% match which would only have purchased 4 SCBAs without the grant.
Our purchase will provide more up to date SCBAs that are 4500 psi /45 minute cylinders vs our 2216 psi / 30 minute cylinders affording our firefighters with more air and longer time working in hazardous environments.

North Sabine Fire District is extremely proud to announce that after our recent regrading from dropping 2 Classifications from a Class 6 to Class 4, we have achieved a Fire Protection Class 3.
Fire Protection Classifications are rated from 1-10. Class 1 is the best with 10 being no Fire Protection.
From 2003 til 2023 we were a Class 6. Passing our millages and hard work has allowed us to accomplish this for our communities.
Please reach out to your insurance provider to make sure they have applied the new Classification of 3 and should you need a letter feel to reach out to our office to verify your address and receive one.
