The EU programme “Sustainable management of water resources in rural areas in Uzbekistan” aims at contributing to sustainable and inclusive growth in the rural sector of Uzbekistan in the context of a changing climate by improving water governance and the efficiency of water resources management at national, basin and farm level. Therefore, it brings together three components that are closely interconnected. GIZ is implementing component 1 aimed at shaping a national policy framework for water governance and integrated water resources management. In 4 years (2016-2019) GIZ together Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan with will contribute to further development of a national water resources management strategy by enhancing legal, institutional, organizational and financial frameworks and regulatory instruments and aligning them to international standards. Fergana, Andijan, Namangan, Syrdarya, Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya were selected as pilot regions. Other implementing partner organisations: International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Council for Research and Economics in Agriculture (Italy) (CREA), the Environment Agency of Austria (Umweltbundesamt) and the German Federal Foreign Office.
