Highlights from the 2026 Youth Forum of Taiwan and Sanit Vincent and the Grenadines & Gala Dinner

On August 29, the Embassy was thrilled to host the Youth Forum of Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines alongside a celebratory Gala Dinner in Kingstown, bringing together nearly 100 passionate youth leaders, delegates, and distinguished dignitaries from both nations!

Under the banner of democracy, innovation, and shared values, our visiting Taiwanese Youth Ambassadors joined hands with Vincentian youth to engage in inspiring discussions on “Driving National Progress through Democracy” and “Unlocking Economic Potential through Innovation and Entrepreneurship.” 💡🗣️

The occasion was made truly memorable with the high-level participation from both governments. We were deeply honored by the presence of The Hon. Minister Shevern John and Senator Chelsea Alexander throughout the forum, who were later joined by The Hon. Minister Kaschaka Cupid for a vibrant and warm evening at the Gala Dinner. Alongside H.E. Ambassador Fiona Fan, Head of Delegation Andy Liu, and Deputy Head of Delegation Pei-Fen Hsieh, our delegates and young leaders exchanged dynamic perspectives and forged lifelong cross-cultural friendships. 🥂🎉

As we proudly commemorate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties, our youth have shown that when young minds connect, the future of Taiwan-SVG brotherhood shines brighter than ever! 🇹🇼✈️🇻🇨

🌍Taiwan International Youth Ambassadors Shine at the “Taiwan—Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Cultural Night”

Led by Head of Delegation Andy Liu and Deputy Head of Delegation Pei-Fen Hsieh, the 24 Taiwan International Youth Ambassadors who have distinguished themselves from 600 applicants visited Saint Vincent and the Grenadines from August 26th to 30th, 2026. The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) organized a series of programs including courtesy calls, cultural performances, youth and basketball exchange, and visit to bilateral cooperation projects.

During the delegation’s visit to the Embassy, H.E. Fiona Fan, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stressed the importance of Value Diplomacy, as the steadfast friendship between the two countries flourish on the shared value of freedom and democracy, and Taiwan’s endeavor in deepening collaboration through the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project. Ambassador Fan encouraged the Youth Ambassadors to actively engage with Vincentian youth during their visit to jointly advance diplomatic efforts.

Following their arrival on August 26th, the Delegation paid a courtesy call on Hon. Fitzgerald Bramble, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and Diaspora Affairs. Minister Bramble welcomed the delegation as the two countries celebrated 45 years of diplomatic ties, and looked forward to fostering connection and understanding between the peoples. On August 27th, the delegation paid a courtesy call on H.E. Stanley John, Governor-General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, performed Taiwanese folk tunes with traditional instruments and engaged with Vincentian youth. The Governor-General graciously encouraged the youth to unleash their creativity in shaping the next era.

In the evening of August 27th, the Embassy and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Creative Industries were proud to present the “Taiwan—Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Cultural Night.” The Governor-General graced the evening with His Excellency’s presence, while cabinet members including Hon. St. Clair Leacock, Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Minister Bramble, Hon. Kaschaka Cupid, Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture and Creative Industries, and Hon. Phillip Jackson, Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information, participated in the event after Parliament sitting. Acting Commissioner Trevor Bailey of Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, government officials, friends from arts and culture, students and media were present, packing Peace Memorial Hall with over 230 audiences.

In the remark, Ambassador Fan stressed the meaningfulness of the Delegation’s visit as Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines celebrated 45th anniversary of steadfast diplomatic relation. The friendship has been manifested through critical infrastructure including Argyle International Airport and Kingstown Port Modernization, while youth empowerment has always been at the centre of policy priority for both governments. Taiwan has been actively promoting the “Taiwan Global Pathfinder Initiative,” enabling youth to fulfil their dreams in our allied country. Through culture, music and performing art, the friendship between the two countries will further surpass geographical boundaries and bring the hearts of peoples even closer.

Deputy Prime Minister Leacock commended the development, order, culture and resilience he had witnessed firsthand during his trip to Taiwan earlier this year, and encouraged youth to forge friendship that could continue to flourish through different stages of life, long as the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Taiwan Youth Ambassadors presented “Melodious Island Sounds,” “The Beauty of Taiwanese Folklore,” and “Shine Shine Taiwan,” three main programs featuring Hakka culture, Taiwanese opera, martial arts, Taiwanese folk songs, rap, street dances, and “Team Taiwan” baseball cheering tunes to showcase different facets of culture that the people of Taiwan are extremely proud of. Vincentian performers presented traditional and African-Caribbean dances, and performed Taiwanese songs with steel pan. The highlight of the evening is Taiwan Youth Ambassadors’ joint performance in the traditional Vincentian dances “Tin-Go-Lay” and Maypole with only a few hours of rehearsal earlier in the day, demonstrating the fruitful outcomes of youth exchanges between Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

🇹🇼🤝🇻🇨Ambassador Fiona Fan and Dr. Hon. Godwin Friday, Prime Minister of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines jointly presided over the award ceremony for 2026 MOFA Taiwan Scholarship and TaiwanICDF Scholarship in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadies on August 6, 2026. Hon. Fitzgerald Bramble, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Terrance Ollivierre, Minister of Higher Education Grenadines Affairs, Local Government, Airports & Seaports, and Hon. Laverne King, Senator and Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information have participated. Apart from the 6 scholarship recipients currently in Taiwan, almost all of the remaining 30 scholarship recipients and their parents were present, creating a lively and warm atmosphere.👩‍🎓🧑‍🎓

In his address, Prime Minister Friday congratulated 2026 scholarship recipients and expressed his sincere hope that they would diligently pursue their studies in Taiwan, making their families proud. He also encouraged them to enjoy the academic, cultural, and friendly opportunities in Taiwan, embrace all challenges, and humbly absorb new knowledge to strengthen their expertise in fields such as public health, agriculture, information and machinery. He noted that St. Vincent and the Grenadines needs new knowledge and creativity, and hoped that they would return home to contribute after completing their studies. He added that Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines share universal values such as democracy and freedom, and expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Fan for her dedication to maintaining Taiwan-St. Vincent and the Grenadines relations. 🎓🎓🎓

Ambassador Fan congratulated the 36 outstanding scholarship recipients this year, bringing the total number of scholarship recipients in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to 387. She cited the documentary film "A Chip Odyssey" recently screened from the Embassy, as an example. The film showcases how Taiwan has established an indispensable position in the global technology industry. Taiwan's success is not accidental. After the Republic of China withdrew from the United Nations in 1971, immense geopolitical pressure loomed over Taiwan. A group of young elites studying in the United States did not stay abroad to pursue their careers and lives, but instead returned home with patriotism. Step by step, they built Taiwan's technological foundation, transforming Taiwan into a world-leading semiconductor giant. Ambassador Fan encouraged the 2026 Taiwan Scholarship recipients to broaden their international views and various knowledge in Taiwan, and looked forward to their future return to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to contribute to the country's development and prosperity. Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines share common values such as freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This year, as Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations, their journey will open a new chapter in the friendly relations between the two countries.
