Volcanic Eruption Emergency Project - VEEP

Volcanic Eruption Emergency Project - VEEP VEEP supports reconstruction & delivery of critical services after the April 2021 volcanic eruptions. The estimated date of completion is 30 December 2026.

The Volcanic Eruption Emergency Project (VEEP) is a three-component project that seeks to provide short-term income support to Vincentians who were negatively impacted by the 2021 eruptions of the La Soufriere volcano. It also aims to repair and improve critical services, and strengthen the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ capacity to prepare for and respond to national emergencies.

VEEP is being funded through an International Development Association (World Bank) credit of US$40 million and co-financed with a European Union (EU) grant of US$2 million. The project was approved by the Board of the World Bank on 30 November 2021 and became effective on 10 December 2021. The project is being executed by the Economic Planning Division through its Public Sector Investment Programme Management Unit (PSIPMU). The Economic Planning Division falls under the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Information Technology.

Volcano Awareness Month is observed every April and forms part of the Geo hazard public education activities within the National Programme of NEMO SVG. Most major historic effusive and explosive eruptions of La Soufriere Volcano have occurred in the months of April and May, making the month an apt period to remember, educate and gather knowledge around and about our Volcano.
